Beatmaker 3 and what you'd like to see

edited May 2013 in General
Here is what I would like to see in BM3, or whatever major update is next <!-- s:ugeek: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_ugeek.gif" alt=":ugeek:" title="Uber Geek" /><!-- s:ugeek: -->

I use BM2 on the iPad, so graphical requests may not make sense on iPhone/I touch

- when editing files in the browser, it would be very helpful to be able to select more than one file at a time. The ability to move files without having to Dropbox would also be great
- I would certainly pay extra for an mp3 encoder on export, to save time and bandwidth sending out rough mixes via Dropbox
-audio files should reside in a folder named "audio tracks" inside the project folder- or give the user the choice of where to put them
- ability to name audio files after recording... Or name them after whatever the sequencer track is named automatically
- is it possible when using Multi, to select pads across different banks
-need iTunes file sharing- FTP is very slow for big transfers and is unreliable, and Dropbox is about 80% reliable
-make the delete (X) button slightly larger, along with the rest of the tools.. Some of us have big sausage fingers!
-monophonic preview of samples. and possibly the ability to replay the selected sample when previewing without having to select another sample and come back
-undo button disappears after I overdub midi on a sequence a couple of times.
-It turns out I like having the decimal places in the tempo- but we need the ability to enter the tempo numerically from time to time
-make the mute/solo buttons in the mixer available to control via midi
- need a loop audio mode- I understand why BM2 keeps recording after the loop, but we need to be able to have a record mode where it's basically a resample track and have it loop
- a more robust compressor (with visual feedback pls!), and the addition of a brick wall limiter

I've got my finger on the purchase button even if the price goes up, Intua. This is amazing software and I haven't used Reason since I've started using Beatmaker 2!

It's been said before but Soundfont integration. There is only one app I know of that does this, but it doesn't record which makes it useless for me. Release BM3 with a GM soundfont, keep the drums and lose all the built-in instruments.

Oh! Also the old pad link trick would be nice- tap one pad and any number of other assigned pads play

i would to see a transient master effect to get punchier drums, a way to delete unwanted songs and samples. and a search bar for samples and songs instead of scrolling forever trying to find it. its a beatmaker app and i love making beats with it, all my ideas come from this app. been a dedicated fan for years now and these are the updates id like to see since to processors in the iOS are way faster now. i would also like to have a choice of color in the pads. as far as music wise its a great app to lay down the blue prints. thank you intua.

Ditto on the pad link trick

+1 on the colored pads... It's time!

    An improved reverb with IR

    Improved dropbox

Improved filesystem that allows me to save things where I want to...not all over the place, because I must be aware of where I am all the time in the system

A better compressor/limiter, I am just not partial to your compressor...its a bit useless imho

    RESAMPLING

    metering? fft? its totally do-able

a sequencing gate effect! or a sequencer that drives the effects with 16 or 32 steps

said sequencer could also be an arp

name and store effects and effect chains

quicker audio track assignment and creation...or ability to clone your tracks

would like to see some kind of velocity entry one day....even if its like on imaschine...

it would be cool if on a selected pad we could get a projected x/y
to do like velocity on x axis and say panning on y axis? or even user configured

one the effects are improved and the filesystem is better this thing is an absolute beast!

I'll also resuggest adding Sonoma's pasteboard. Not enough apps use the general Intua pasteboard. Soundprism doesn't, Alchemy doesn't, I don't think Animoog does, Chordbot doesn't. I don't know how many apps will be using Audiobus so Sonoma's pasteboard will be a good backup. I'd like to see this sooner than BM3 though.

Alchemy copy will paste to beatmaker2 just in case you didnt know! I use it alot, works!

You're right! Just tried it. I tried a couple other apps and they worked too. Soundprism still doesn't though but I KNOW SP is on board for Audiobus so it's kinda moot. I'd still like to see the Sonoma pasteboard incorporated though just in case.

    Thanks MicGee$

    Glad I could help =)
I just gave it a shot one day, thats the only way I knew it would work
  • edited 5:03AM
Just thought of this on a whim, so don't laugh-
I am using the akai mpd32 over here and this would be golden:
Being able to assign the vertical and horizontal sequence "moving" tools to midi...imagine selecting a sequence, and using two assigned rotary encoders to move it anywhere you want!
The movement would be dictated by the snap value just as it is right now.

    Beatmaker 3?

I would like to see a redmatica keymap style sample editor...
I would like to see file compatibility with soundfont
I would like to see a better bussing and master section on mixer.
I would like to see a better file system
I would like to see a programmable arp...step sequencer
I would like to see genuine audio tracks
I would like to see a great sample/resampling sound engine with pitch, time, and formant also the spectral edit power of iris...

I would like to see slices being made into quantize points...groove templates

I would like to see a futuristic way to play samples...keys are cool, as are drum pads...but yo! This is a touch screen so its really open here! Velocity would be great. Next time!

I would like to see smaller, but more frequent updates!
But if you guys honestly fix the effects and resampling in bm2 i wont care about bm3 unless its just ohhhhhhhhh shiiiiiiiiit

    +1 soundfont love
    Reorder tracks
Fx Ala Buffeater - tape stop/start, pitch, stutter set to pads (1/64,1/32,etc), xypad mode
Tempo change - I can see this lovely with how the automation works.
Real time stretch with slices, and warp transients.
Pad ADSR, pitch, pan, filter on one screen.
    Synth
    Bounce pad
    Pad mixer

    Extras
    Name regions
    Color regions
    Markers and or pattern/session mode
    iTunes filesharing
    Export to ipod

Last updates and most proposals are converting Beatmaker into Dubstepmaker <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) --> I would like to see something for beatmakers:
    1. New autochop function for lazy people like me (based on wave shape with specific resolution - something like fruityslicer in FL studio)
    2. Pad layering

    Individual TRACK VOLUME...please

Resampling, and especially a resampling to mono option! I want to see resampling implemented already! Above all, I'd like to see Intua clean BeatMaker up a bit. It's a pretty messy app.

    They need to implement:

Static send channels corresponding to the send knobs in the mixer tracks similar to NanoStudio, Live, FL Studio, etc.

A better way to deal with missing samples

A universal search function by file name

A way to paste audio directly into pads and sample zones from using the pasteboard

Direct SynthStation 25 support without MIDI bridge

Non-destructive note slicing in the keyboard sampler

An automatic non-destructive chopping algorithm similar to FL Studio's Fruity Slicer or Slicex

Real time time stretching like Ableton Live's Time Warp

Those are the things I'd love to see implemented the most.

+1 -- A way to paste audio directly into pads and sample zones from using the pasteboard
  • edited 5:03AM
More functions for pads ala Ableton clip functions (repeat, quantized live, better stretching)
How about a minimize button for quick load so you can dont have to start over completely browsing samples when you need to switch up and look at which bank you are in, which settings etc.

Better mixer section with longer faders and a drum pad mixer on one screen with a small pad button on the mixer track so you can preview without flipping screens.

Some assignable ribbon controller effect for scratching on your samples. Maybe a little turntable style pop up window with pad sample loaded in waveform to manipulate live. Or just the ribbon itself on the bottom for control and sample in waveform displayed on top.

The ability to reposition the playhead from inside the sequencer....

    I know of 2

Bs16i which since it's latest update will let you render to a wav file

    And

Energyxt which will let you save wav to Dropbox

I'd like to put my vote in for Soundfont integration- I can put my sound font collection to use.

need a loop audio mode- I understand why BM2 keeps recording after the loop, but we need to be able to have a record mode where it's basically a resample track and have it loop
do you mean like in GarageBand for Mac, keep playing through the loop and it would record each take, and then when you're done you can choose the best take? if so, that'd be sweet.
  • edited 5:03AM
    In NanoStudio you can export to a .NSP and it's all 1 file, there's no folder for the project file, it's just 1 file, that'd be convenient in BM <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

    I really appreciate the continued updates Intua <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

Nope- like when I set a loop, and start recording, it doesn't loop. The audio track just keeps recording. I use a workaround for resampling where I record the bm2 output back into my akai EIE.

  • I would love to be able to use the beatmaker2 app on the synthstation25. Im really disappointed in the app for the synthstation. Beatmaker2 runs circles around it.

Please allow us to create a dedicated audio recording folder, or at least have a default folder where all audio recordings are saved to. It's a PITA having recordings show up in the root area of the user folder.

A limiter/Maximizer and better menu system.
  • edited December 2012
    +1 on the limiter

    small add's for v3

    - in the chop shop, when playing back a chop allow me to loop that chop and not only playback

    - duplicate pad/ copy pad to another pad

    - ability to freely move notes on the sequncer grid, ie resolution not restricted to 96

    - a waveform type record player where you can open a mp3 and stream from disk, with loop controls like in traktor, loop in/out, halve loop, double size etc. move forward by loop length and finally a button that dumps the selected loop into a folder and names it automatically <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

    - allow for drum machine tracks to be exported to wav by pad and not only by track
ie. track with kick, snare, hat, toms etc. export each into a track and not only 1 track

    - length of a sample in bars and beats unable t o set it to 4 bars lets say? maybe user error <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

    - get note repeat out of that silly submenu, allow to learn/assign a midi button for note repeat. ie, MPD32 has note repeat button, why not able to map that to BM2 note repeat. Same with Size of Note Repeat
