I'm new to this. I have the latest iPad pro. I have gone through online how to drag a .mid file into a bank. The pattern appears and when I ply, the notes are hit. BUT.... You can not hear anything. If I load another bank with a sound, you can hear that fine. Any ideas anyone?

Hey guys,

How are you importing Midi files to your BeatMaker3 tracks? Right now, I have my import folder setup with a mix of audio files and MIDI. I set up a track, assign a plug-in for the sound I want, go to the import folder and attempt to drag the .mid file to the associated track; BM3 then prompts me to import (which I do). Then...nothing. What am I missing? Thanks in advance.

Note that I am using an iPad Mini 6.

I have a Akai LPD8 Wireless, running the latest iOS on iPad Pro 10.5, and the latest Beatmaker 3. I hadn't used the program in a while ( a couple updates), and when importing my previous mappings of the LPD8 Wireless I noticed that the 6th Macro channel didn't work.

I remapped everything, but no matter what I did, the K6 knob always mapped to the 0 channel instead of 6. I was confused, so I looked in Midi Wrench, and sure enough, no problems.

It is either some simple typo in the last release, or there is some setting I don't know about that was added to cause this particular problem, but I'm betting on a bug. :-)

Open a bank, pull the file over into a sequencer track, get the midi import transposition dialog, but nothing imports. I can open these midi files in the other apps but not BM3. We’re talking notes here, not midi drum patterns. I can open the sequencer to check the midi data isn’t stored really high or at the bottom of the scale, there is nothing there.

Am I doing something wrong or is this broken?

Jay Meter is a midi timing sequencer preset for Mozaic which can perform forward and backward offsets. Designed for Hip Hop, IDM, and any genre where human or off-kilter grooves are required.

Audio Demo:
https://soundcloud.com/aanders/jay-meter-demo-example-1

I've always wanted to have full control over midi timing as to achieve from the BM3 piano roll a consistent but human shuffled feel similar to J Dilla, Madlib, Flying Lotus, Dam-Funk, etc. So when Moziac came around last month, I set aside some time to learn how to build the shuffle step sequencer that I've always wanted.

How to use:

Step 1: Download Mozaic from the iOS App Store.

Step 2: Download and install Jay Meter from my github. You can either copy + paste the source directly into the editor, or import one of the compiled presets provided in the github zip archive.

Step 3: Depending on whether you want to apply the effect to an instrument plugin or bm3 bank of pads, you will need to apply a different setup in order for the patch to work properly.

Plugin Instrument Steps:
Under MIDI FX, make sure the bank is selected:

Add MIDI Effect -> Select Mozaic -> Load

Show Plugin -> Load -> JayMeter under user presets.

BM3 Bank Steps:
Under MIDI FX, make sure a singlepad is selected. You can toggle between bank and pad by way of the 3x3 matrix icon:

Add MIDI Effect -> Select Mozaic -> Load
Show Plugin -> Load -> JayMeter under user presets.

Repeat for each pad you intend to have the effect applied to. This is cumbersome I realize. However from my testing this is the only way of getting a midi effect plugin to work with a bm3 bank. This is a problem with other effects I've tested from Bram Bos. This may be resolved with a future update to bm3.

How To Use:

MIDI is received by the Jay Meter Mozaic patch as a stream of events. These include note values, velocity, and CC. With strength and random set to 0, the data is passed through completely unchanged. The named dials effect the delay of these MIDI messages in real time.

Offset - A global offset of all MIDI messages received to a fixed value which can be measured and compensated for. Q: Why is there a global offset? A: As to allow for something that would otherwise not be possible, forward (negative) delays/offsets to midi messages. Other "swing" or "shuffle" tools can only make notes appear delayed relative to their original placement. Even though in principal this is still just applying a delay to the midi received by the plugin, the magic comes from allowing a global offset to put all notes a fixed value out from the original stream, then applying "negative" offsets to reduce the delay. Thus allowing both "pull" and "push" in groove sequences.

Steps 1-16 - A sequence of steps which have +/- 100% values which can be used to configure offsets in a sequence. Instead of painstakingly applying notes by hand in a piano roll without snap or quantize in order to achieve that "unquantized-feel", just dial in the steps on the sequencer to add a groove to your rhythm. Abuse can lead to some fun IDM-style disjointed rhythms as well.

Random - In addition to the sequencer, a random offset generator is provided to allow for even looser feeling grooves. Most "humanize" midi plugins which incorporate timing utilize a simple random offset. I recommend for most productions to keep the random value low as to avoid a "sloppy" feeling rhythm.

Strength - A "fine" grain control of the offset range. Used to dial in a precise range for the push and pull effect.

Multiplier - A "course" grain control of the offset range. From 1/16-1 beat divided by 16ths. When multiplier and strength are 100%, the offset range is a full +/- 1 beat. I don't recommend doing this unless you are going for an experimental sound as the results can be drastic!

Seq Speed - Sets the speed of the sequencer from original BPM to 4xBPM. Defaults to 2xBPM for most conventional shuffle sounds.

Please let me know your thoughts in the comments below. I want to build something similar for Velocity and potentially bring this to the desktop through Max4Live, but I wanted to gauge interest. If you find this useful, please let me know. I've tried to make the source code very clear about what the plugin is doing in order to help other users in the creation of their own Mozaic patches.

I purchased the 808 Science pack. Load up a drum kit. Then when I attempt to import one of the midi patterns from the pack I’m asked to transpose. The default is no transpose. At this stage I’ve no wish and no idea how to do anything else. When I import the pattern starts at sample 37 way above the loaded samples.

What’s going on here? Is there a tutorial to help me get started with this?

Edit:20200606. After I found two different, and fairly new, tutorial videos doing the drag and drop as the manual explains I realized I must have done something with the settings. Unfortunately I could not figure out what so I did a clean reinstall and now it works. If I figure out what I did wrong I'll tell you but for now - over and out.

So I read the manual on how to drag and drop a midi file but can't get it to work. Well, once out of countless attempts it did work so I know I don't do it wrong. The one time it did work I exported a midi-clip from the app and immediately imported it again. Then deleted it and tried, again, with the file I actually wanted - nope! Then tried the file that had worked a second earlier, again - nope! So I gather it must be a bug but before I write the developers I wanted to ask you guys, with some experience (I'm a new user) if there's a workaround or any tips about preparation as it did work, once.

when performing live, i’ve been using a voicelive 3 foot controller to turn on and off various effects, works well, but i don’t like the interface and it’s bulky and limited so i thought it was worth a shot to investigate an alternative.

i’m trying to achieve the same result with beatmaker 3 using a bluetooth midi foot pedal like the irig blueboard, it has four switches and two expression pedal inputs, i’d like to use the buttons as follows :

1- reverb on/off
2- delay on/off
3- doubler on/off
4- tap tempo
exp pedal 1 : reverb mix
exp pedal 2 : delay mix

after some tests, it seems i could map the exp pedals to macro knobs which in turn control the reverb and delay mix knobs, and it seems like i can map tap tempo to a switch with no hassle, but i can’t find a way to turn on and off effects at the press of a switch..

are there other apps more suited for this task ?
basically my vocal chain in voicelive 3 goes like this

always on noise gate -> always on compressor -> always on subtle pitch correction -> switchable doubler/chorus -> switchable delay -> switchable reverb -> stereo outs.

i would like to achieve this through my iphone in the ios environment, i’ve looked at other apps, but it’s hard to find manuals for apps to check if these things are possible before committing money 💰.

I just got beatmaker 3 for my iPad pro and I am having an issue with the damper pedal from my MIDI keyboard when using the Korg Module piano app as an inter-app audio source. I can’t get it to sustain any notes. The sustain works fine on its own when I disconnect it from BM3 and use the piano independently, but as soon as it hits the app, it stops working. The pedal works fine in BM3 with other apps as audio units, but the Module app doesn’t show up on the list as an audio unit, so I can’t just do it that way. I love the Moduke app because it has very realistic piano sounds that don’t sound tinny or fake and I don’t really want to have to find a substitute. I have tried everything and just can’t seem to figure it out......and it is very frustrating! Grrrrr! Someone help me please!

Best as I can tell, this is a documented feature (documented as it’s in the manual) that doesn’t work in Beatmaker 3. If I follow all instructions in the manual to set input and output ports I can’t connect to external synths. In particular, have been trying with a Vermona Perfourmer. No matter what channels and what ports I set (with an iConnect A4+) midi is only sent out on channel 1.

This is my first post and perhaps I need to explain more clearly——but it’s shame external midi is a non-working feature in an otherwise amazing app. I’ve seen online workaround that have to do with assigning samples to pads and then setting the length of the sample to 0 or so, but that’s a kludge, at best?

In a perfect world, I should be able to set input and output MIDI channels for tracks and banks such that they’re as accessible as all of the bank soundsets or the IAA or AU instruments that can easily be assigned to where they’re needed.

Or maybe a different way to state it is an external midi controller and external hardware synths seem, by design, to difficult to use and access?

If I’m missing something simple that’s covered elsewhere, which is easy enough to do, I’d be very appreciative if someone would direct me to the appropriate resource!

Or perhaps all of this is already under review and on the way to a change in a next update?

Hi,

Ok, Macro controls are massive, but it seems too limited for my needs I'm afraid...

As far as I've understood, if you want to map let's say Ruismaker to a midi controller, you have to select an AUx parameter between the 16 that BM3 can handle (fine for me) , then you assign it to a macro control, then you map the macro to your midi controller. Right ?

I wonder because selecting instruments directly is not a problem, it's assigned with the notes on the midi controller.
But the CC's are not. Right ??
I kind of expected that even with a fix CC into Ruismaker related to BM3, I would have been able to control it directly as the midi controller is well connected as he's sending notes to the instruments...

Am I missing something ?
If it's the normal workflow of BM3, 16 macros are really too few...
I could "live" with 64 macros in that case, but to have some spare, I'd love to have 128...or maybe 96...

I posted this in General before realizing Support is the better Discussion category (I can't delete the General post unfortunately).

I'm currently running into a problem that I hope someone can help with. I am using an iRig BlueBoard to control Amplitube on an Audio Track (electric guitar). This works great, except I cannot figure out how to save the BlueBoard automation including expression pedal. I'm reasonably experienced in MIDI and audio configuration, so I've tried many things. I've switched the BlueBoard into the generic MIDI mode and assigned these CCs to Amplitube; this works but I can't save CC messages [NOTE new comment below, I was able to save CC messages with some difficulty]. (I am aware that if I was using an AU3 unit I could use BM3's Macro controls to control parameters, allowing me to save my controller changes as I play. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with Amplitube and IAA.) I see that Amplitube, as a track effect or a plugin on a separate Bank, exposes general parameters but these don't seem to have any effect or exposure in Amplitube. I've read all relevant user guides and searched online, but I can't seem to find a solution to my problem. Any help or insight is greatly appreciated!

Update: I've made some progress. One major problem I had is that iRig's BlueBoard controller app and iRig's Amplitube do not like to run at the same time (as Amplitube seems to take over the BlueBoard when in use). I decided to run BlueBoard (which allows Midi configuration of the bluetooth MIDI foot board) on my iPhone, then send that using Bluetooth-over-MIDI to BM3. This seems to work much better (previously Amplitube was really sluggish and confused when set to be controlled by the BlueBoard as a generic MIDI controller when they were both active on the iPad).

So now I can record the MIDI control inputs from iPhone and save this onto a new Bank with Amplitube loaded as a plugin (Pad 1). This is great — I can see my expression pedals saved in a MIDI clip in BM3! However, I still have a few major problems. I'm not sure why but Amplitube, when loaded as a Bank Instrument (and not an effect), is defaulted to my hardware input 1 — but I see no place to change this. Luckily, my guitar is in input 1, but this is still problematic. So without being able to route saved audio back through Amplitube (as it plays the MIDI clips with controller changes), I still haven't solved the problem. Does anyone have any ideas how to do this? When Amplitube is a plugin in a Bank, I can play the saved MIDI clips and see the effects change, but it doesn't allow me to route the saved (clean) guitar track through it. I'm want to believe there's some solution to my problem; again, any advice is very greatly appreciated!

See my comment below for the solution I finally achieved...
