TL;DR
The Atom midi controller doesnt seem to record properly, video attached.

The Atom midi controller feels like the best portable midi pad option available right now IMHO. However it doesnt seem to work with Beatmaker 3.
I can map everything fine and its very responsive and I can play drums and samples on it perfectly. But when it comes to actually recording anything, something goes wrong. It often won't record notes I play (even though they clearly were triggered in the software) and a lot of the time when it does happen to record some of the notes, you won't be able to hear them until you stop the pattern and then press play again.
This issue does not exist when I play on the ipad screen pads directly, nor does it happen when I plug in my Akai MPD218 pad controller. The MPD218 almost was exactly what I wanted but unfortunately has issues with double triggering notes. The Atom has amazing pads, has a ton of controls and is even more compact than the 218! I'd really love to use it but for some reason I cant get it working and cant find ANY info on people using it with Beatmaker 3.

Here is a video I made of the issue I am talking about.

Good Day Folks,
so first, im a total newbie to the whole music producing scene.
I never was a fan of sitting in front of the computer and making music, so this hobby never stucked to me, cause i needed some hardware in my hand. I just did it in my head.. for years. Finally i want to transfer it to a actual device. So i stumbled across BM3 and im really impressed. I never used any DAWs on a PC and never got my hands on a DAW at all except BM3 now.
Because im so new in this whole world, i grinded building general knowledge about music production.
I now think i have a basic amount of knowledge what a sampler, sequenecer, midi signals, interfaces, etc. is but im still super confused when it comes to the details, especially Midi Controllers.

What i want to have is a controller, which i can use to minimalize to look at the ipad directly, so i will work more with the controller than the DAW itself. I also want to try out sample based beat making, so i want a setup to record from my phone, my PC or maybe even a future vinyl player i will buy.
As well i want a midi keyboard to have a feeling for what i do rather than touching a glass screen.

My question is:
Is there any limitation in Midi Controllers or Midi Keyboards i can use with BM3 on the Ipad? Do i have to look for specific specs which only work with BM3 or isnt this important at all, because in BM3 you can map Midi from any devices? Do i need a midi output on my controller or can i just plug in the usb and im ready to go? Is an Audio Interface neccessary in an Ipad Setup?

I know i need a Apple Lightning to USB3 adapter to connect a midi controller to my ipad. but is that it and im ready to map? And what do i need for sampling into the ipad? I came across these little things from IK multimedia(IRigs) but i dont quite understand which device i need for what task.

I have a few favorites i have in mind for purchasing:
Controller: Maschine MK3 Mikro
Akai MPD 218
Novation launch Key Mini3k
Sensel Morph
Keyboard: Komplete Kontrol M32
Arturia Micro Lab
Alesis V25
Would there be any problem in running one of these?

I know its much and i hope you are not as confused as i am in this moment.
I hope theres someone who can tell me a bit more about this and im sorry if this is some basic thing to ask, but i feel a bit lost
Much love

I am at the point where I will start performing live and therefore Im building a live rig now. I have previously been using an iconnectivity audio 4+ and beatstep /qnexus on midi.

rather than just using bm3 as a creative source, and production platform in the studio, Im wondering where it fits in on stage in a live rig. This is where I probly need tighter control than just keys and pads. I might be looking at an entire different use, but for now I need to know what midi controllers work fully? What controllers let me really make the most of bm3?

I know I can use just about any midi device with the iconnectivity but what controllers were laying around at intua all the whole time?

Unless I’m mistaken, the problem when mapping the Macro controls using Midi Focus is that when you switch from one bank to another, the Macro value will « jump » to the one last set by its controller. Because my English sucks and the problem is not easy to describe, here’s an example : let’s say you tweak the Macro 2 on Bank A at a value of 80%. Then, in Bank B you want to tweak its Macro 2. If this one was originally at 0%, as soon as you touch the knob on your midi controller mapped the Macro 2, this one will jump from 0& to 70%, and this problem goes on and on from on bank to another. Since the Macro controls are meant to be used in live situations, you can see the problem. So far I didn’t find any solution to avoid this and there’s still no midi learn for Macro controls.
Any other users concerned by this behavior, any solution to avoid this problem ? Thank you for your help !

Best as I can tell, this is a documented feature (documented as it’s in the manual) that doesn’t work in Beatmaker 3. If I follow all instructions in the manual to set input and output ports I can’t connect to external synths. In particular, have been trying with a Vermona Perfourmer. No matter what channels and what ports I set (with an iConnect A4+) midi is only sent out on channel 1.

This is my first post and perhaps I need to explain more clearly——but it’s shame external midi is a non-working feature in an otherwise amazing app. I’ve seen online workaround that have to do with assigning samples to pads and then setting the length of the sample to 0 or so, but that’s a kludge, at best?

In a perfect world, I should be able to set input and output MIDI channels for tracks and banks such that they’re as accessible as all of the bank soundsets or the IAA or AU instruments that can easily be assigned to where they’re needed.

Or maybe a different way to state it is an external midi controller and external hardware synths seem, by design, to difficult to use and access?

If I’m missing something simple that’s covered elsewhere, which is easy enough to do, I’d be very appreciative if someone would direct me to the appropriate resource!

Or perhaps all of this is already under review and on the way to a change in a next update?

Hi all, I love the app but a drum mode is really missing when recording realtime triggered beats. In this mode retriggered notes on a single pad woul be recorded even when they are partially overlapping. This happens typically when finger drumming, eg playing rolls or double slams on snares. Right now in beatmaker you can hear thes notes when playing live but they are not recorded. In detail, in beatmaker’s sequencer repeated note on messages on the same note are ignored as long as the first note hasn’t been released. Other sequencers have this option as a socalled drum mode. In a beat making app, this would really be a big improvement. Thanks for considering this.
