Debt mediator keeps calling my job after I asked them to stop. What do I do?
I made a payment plan with a debt mediation company to settle an old credit card. At first, it seemed fine. But now they call my work phone multiple times a day. They also contacted my manager once to "verify my employment."
I sent them a written request to stop contacting me at work. They ignored it. I feel humiliated and scared I could lose my job over this.
I found this article that says third party debt mediators have to follow the same rules as original creditors. You can actually sue them if they keep contacting you after you tell them to stop.
Has anyone dealt with this? Did filing a complaint with the CFPB actually help?
