Is anyone still playing CS:Source in 2026, or is it completely dead?
Hey everyone, just feeling a bit nostalgic tonight. Back in the day, I used to spend countless hours playing Counter-Strike: Source, messing around on custom surf maps, zombie escape servers, and just classic dust2 matches. Lately, CS2 has been stressing me out with all the sweating and competitive ranks, and I really miss that old-school, chill community vibe. Is there anyone here who still boots up CSS occasionally? Are the servers totally empty or overrun by bots now, or can you actually find a decent community server with real people talking in voice chat? I’m seriously thinking about reinstalling it just for the sake of good old times, but I don't want to waste my time if it's a complete ghost town. Let me know if it's worth getting back into!

Oh man, you just hit me right in the feels! I had the exact same realization a few weeks ago after a brutal losing streak in CS2. To answer your question: no, it’s definitely not dead! There is still a very dedicated core player base, especially on community servers. You’ll find plenty of active surf, gungame, and classic casual servers. The main issue sometimes is that if you use the steam version, the server browser can be a bit wonky or filled with fake player counts. I actually didn't want to mess with my main Steam account setup, so a buddy of mine shared a link to a clean, classic build where everything works perfectly out of the box, including the masterserver list. If you want to jump straight into the action without any hassle, you can check it out here https://counter-strike-download.net/counter-strike-source/ It totally saved my weekend, and honestly, hearing people scream into low-quality mics again brought back so many memories. Totally worth playing!
Thanks a ton for the link and the reassurance, man, I'm downloading it right now and can't wait to jump back into some surf maps tonight!
This game is timeless!
