Re: Drums out of sync

edited December 2011 in Support
When playing back track 1 drum beats in the sequencer, my beats are completely off time and sound nothing like what I have recorded. I am a complete newbie to this so expect there is a simple solution. Anyone help?

I'm also having this issue. I have been a long time user of BeatMaker 1 and just upgraded to version 2. No matter what I do, my pad-compositions always play out of sync with what I originally played. It's pretty much made the app useless for me and very frustrating.

I'm running it on an iPad2 with iOS5. I launch the app, start a new project with pads and play a simple "dah,dum-dum-dum,crash" and it plays back as "dah,dum,...dum,...dum,...crash"

... Actually, on further study, it may be that although I hear all my hits while recording, they aren't actually being recorded and are simply dropped.

Yes. If you try to use multiple pads, some get dropped. If I use only a single pad, none do.

Is this an iPad issue or BeatMaker issue?
• This may be a dumb question but are you recording with the metronome click track turned on? I'm wondering if the set song speed (bpm) has something to do with your issues. Maybe BM2 is slotting your recorded beat into a bpm that is different from what you are actually playing.

Either way, once you've recorded a pattern, go into the pattern editor to see where your hits are actually being recorded. Also, make sure you don't have any other apps running in the background while recording in BM2.

Seems to be a BeatMaker issue as I found a workaround.

It turns out that state of the choke groups in the UI is not actually reflected properly when you load a preset. In other words, they all say "None" when they really aren't. You can fix this (at least until you load another preset kit) by selecting all the pads, changing the group to 1 and then changing it back to "None."

See this post for more info on exclusive/choke groups and changing them for the pads.

Not a dumb question at all -- that was the first thing I tried. Yes, tried it with and without the metronome and with all other apps closed. I can see that the hits are missing in the pattern editor (wasn't obvious at first).

It appears that the issue is with the choke groups not being indicated/set properly and I posted a workaround above. Thanks for the reply though
• Weird bug. I haven't experienced any dropped hits but I tend to loop the section I'm recording and only record one pad per swipe through.

There seems to also be a similar issue with the keyboard. I can't seem to figure a workaround for it though. Basically the press/release is off by a bit when I'm playing. Grrr.

I got the same problem with the pads...does my head in
It's not just a iPad issue as I got iPhone 4s.

It's a shame...u should have to buy an app when
U have to reset things...whatever happened to
To simplicity and ease of use...I do like using beatmaker
But unfortunate ly to get the pads to work takes hours
When it should only take minutes...

Hi,

It seems your issue is related to the fact that recorded events are quantized by default to a value of 1/16th. To disable quantize during recording, press the REC. button from the Transport and make sur the ENABLE button is OFF.

Cheers,
Colin

That's me sorted,thanks Colin.
You know I always give reference to beatmaker2
On my remixes on YouTube ...promote the app
Cos even though I have had a few problems with it.
Recognise it's the best studio app out.

http://www.youtube.com/ayazkhana

I always put a mention of the app in my headline on any
Remix which is made by beatmaker.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks Colin. That definitely does the trick. Increasing the precision (eg. 1/32nd or higher) can also work if you still want it on.
