How to pilot external gear with MIDI?

Hey gang,

I've followed the manual's instructions to send midi via a Bank but I only get 1 pad sending a MIDI note to my external gear.
How can I get a normal behaviour i.e. playing BM3 pads to pilot an SP-303?
