  • Hi! Not with ProtonMail, but I had a very similar scenario a long back—many contacts in a CSV file I wanted to import into my phone and convert to VCF for a backup. Once I worked it out, the technique proved to be really simple.

ProtonMail provides your contacts in CSV format, hence the first step is already completed. Transferring the CSV into a VCF (vCard) file comes next; this is far more general and compatible on most devices and systems. Additionally excellent for offline storage is VCF as it maintains the contact structure neat and orderly.

Now, you can accomplish this manually using Excel and some scripting; honestly, though, it's a lot of effort and rather simple to mess up the formatting—especially if you have more than a few contacts. What helped me was using a dedicated conversion tool.

One that I found really handy was Softaken CSV to vCard Converter. It’s designed exactly for this kind of task. All you do is import your CSV file, map the columns—name, phone number, email, etc.—and have everything turned into a correct VCF file. I used it on my CSV file, and the VCF worked perfectly on my Android and also imported smoothly into my desktop address book.

After the conversion, just save the VCF file somewhere secure, like an external hard drive or encrypted USB—for offline backup.

    Hope this becomes useful.
