BeatMaker 2.3+ Feature Request

edited September 2012 in General
When you do the next update could you make It so when I'm in the mixer window the tracks are labeled the same as what I changed them to in the sequencer window? Please?

Some sort of way to package sequences with sound data (ala refill) so i can collab woth producers!
    Add a ringmodulator
Add a better eq (ala track eq on logic)
    A tap delay with beatsync
    A vocoder
    Resonant cabinet sim?
    Improve the reverb
Add a few more synth parameters to your sampler and it will be the synth everyone wants <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->
After that i believe there isnt much anyone could want...

And charge for that update...for real! Make some dough for your work!

No i use samplewiz and thumbjam with a twist of sunrizer all back and forth to beatmaker...i am checking amp sim apps now and i think i found one that will copy paste and give me more efx as well as cabinet tones <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

    Hi,

How do you record all of this back and forth?
I can't even get Sunrizer to multitask with BM2.

Sidechaining. Full CoreMIDI send and receive. Virtual midi ports. Did I mention SIDECHAINING?

@DarkStar: the mixer controls the volume of each individual instruments, not individual tracks in the sequencer (as you can have multiple sequencer tracks connected to the same instrument). This is why the mixer tracks match the names of the instruments, not sequencer tracks.

@MicGee$: DropBox support is coming in a next update. We're currently finishing the development of this new feature.

Also, we already have a thread for feature suggestions, which i'd recommend you to post to instead of the support forum:

Non Destructive Wave Editing like in BeatMaker 1 !!!
  • edited 7:13AM
    @RevelaShaun68: we're currently working on that <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) --> non-destructive chop is coming back!

    Cheers,
    Colin
  • Thanks!!! Now can we get a couple of Skins templates to change up the look a bit. Nothing is wrong with the look
But it's fun to personalize or change up the color scheme now and again!

Anyway we can switch the keys to have the single row instead of the double row of keys...prior to last update i had more finger space to play chords, etc. Even when you git the settings tab(which hides the 2nd row, it seems to be a little cramped to play. Just a suggestion. Oh, and more SOUNDS please..preferably some arp/motion sounds, electric guitar and synths.

I would like to see a control that allows the user to move the start point of each sample when using the drum machine. I was surprised to see that this function was not included when I first checked out this app.

In the sequencing section I'd like to be able to NOT quantize the notes - (ie to be able to place them anywhere, as you would on Cubase, etc). This for me is essential, as sometimes I want to create a more human sounding performance, with nuances in the timing (which are sometimes lost in quantization).

Ok guys... It's kind of become tradition for me to start this topic every time we get an update... This one was absolutely huge, and I want to thank Colin and Vincent for inviting me to be a part of the beta testing group, I really feel this version just made bm2 unbeateable and the best DAW app in the iOS app store.

I want to encourage all users of this forum to make this thread as thorough and detailed, if not even more so, than the last wishlist we made, so as to keep inspiring this incredible coder team to keep pushing the boundaries of what is possible for music making in this devices we use and love.

    Here goes my personal list:

    1. Audio Tracks, Audio Tracks, Audio Tracks! It's the missing link here because now we can sequence external synths and record then, import them...but we are limited to cutting up silences and putting them in pads for sequencing... Audio tracks will liberate this to enable a more organic and diversified arrangement... It will trully close the gap between what bm2 is now and what a regular computer DAW can do. Auto cross fade tracks in vecinity to one another would be amazing as well.

    2. An 8 point parametric EQ with shapes (shelf, cut, bell, etc)... This is vital, even though one can filter today, the current 3 band EQ is by far not enough to sweeten with precision a track or sound... I would love to see EQ's for every pad and every synth as well as an additional FX rack.

    3. An analog modeled compressor with sidechain... It really would make a difference, I don't like the current one at all, reason why I never use it... Great compressors generally have a stereo width control as well.

    4. A better reverb with the option of setting: Room, Chamber or Hall method... Spatial colocation is such a very important part of mixing... It should have Wet level, Dry Level, Early Reflections, Time in seconds, Eq and reflections EQ and widening... I don't expect a convultion reverb because that is without a doubt a cpu hogger, but a good reverb moddeled after a Lexicon or something like that would work really great.

    5. A good brickwall limiter... This is basic to put in the master track to level out stuff a bit and get a punchier and louder overall master track. It should have: Input gain, Attack time, Release time, Output celing, Gain Reduction Metering, Output Metering. Most modern ones have at least three saruration algorithms ranging from clean to saturated.

    6. A stereo width fx... Again, positioning in the stereo field is such a big part of mixing a track. From 200% width to absolute dead center mono.

    7. Power panning pots. I've said this before many times... In the same pot you can have a separate control for the left channel, and one for the right one... Stereo positioning again is the goal here.

    8. A revamp to the synth engine: add a couple more mixable oscillators (making it a 3 oscillator synth) with the option to use wave types (pre loaded or let the user load a wave of their own), 2 lfo's with envelope types to select, add an arpeggiator and a scale selector (check out the Scala format)... I think that would turn this thing arround it's head big time. Grain synthesis would also be a big plus here.

    9. SYSEX audio transport... I monitor closely the OMAC google group discussion... Tempo Rubatto and others will implement it soon... No more copy and paste stuff... Sequence the synth on BM2, connect the both via SYSEX messaging and get the live stream to be recorded on an Audio Track in BM2. Perfect marriage of great with awesome.

    10. I know this one is hard, and would have to be offline by all means but: Transient Warp... Like Elastic Audio on Pro Tools, Warp on Ableton or Flex Time in Logic... Vital to fix those out of time guitar notes we recorded... :0)

    11. Launch quantized clips with pads... Meaning that if you play live by pressing pads the clip start until the next bar starts... Like many mpc's or ableton launch clip has... Also, to be able to record the sequenced launched clips in the sequence view while playing live.

That's pretty much my list right there... Very focused on 2 main things that I perceive as important to address: Audio Tracks and Audio Processing. Please let your own ideas be heard on this post as well.
  • * i'd like to see sample library format support for the keyboard sampler (as usual)

*some mpc-like pattern editing and triggering options. one think i loved about the mpc (and now maschine, incidentally) is the ability to trigger patterns on the fly. Made live performance interesting and was very inspirational when it came to arrangement. so, maybe a matrix view in addition to the linear sequencer?

Legs; i updated my list to reflect this same concept you added... I wanted to include it myself but forgot to add in the first place... It's point no. 11...

    Great list ragno.

I would like from your list the most is.

    #1 ---Audio Tracks!!!!
#2 ---8 point parametric EQ with shapes
    #4 ---better reverb

and i would like to add a way to bounce a sample from the drum machine pad and its pattern notes to a Keyboard instrument.

and this is a simple request......ability to color code patterns.

Have a happy holiday intua team! And thank you for a great update!

    Now...
    Better file system.

Turn the keyboard sampler to a synth

Samplewiz can do granular and modular live...you could too perhaps?

The eq you have is lets just say....make a better one...i think a good study is the one in logic pro?

All the effects need more control, and saveable presets.

    Audio tracks would be cool!

Here is a list of crucial effects i use on a daily...In the studio.
    IMPORTANT ONES...
Compressor, Expander, Limiter, Eq ...all sidechainable
    Bpm controlled slicing gate!!
    Ringmodulator...logic has the best imho
Your bit crusher is basic...have you ever seen decimort?
    FFT meter
    Goniometer
Multimode filter (lp24, lp48, hp, bp, ladder, comb)
    Tape delay
    Amp,cabinet,distort models?
Improved mixer with some modeling...ssl circuit model. Via reason mixer...and the rumored nu logic x ? This is the dance/hiphop mixer of choice

In simple i say add some effects and improve on whats there already...
The keyboard sampler could be a synth, the drum sampler is great already
The effects are the real loss leader, and audio tracks would be cool
    Sampler format support...EXS, AKAI, Soundfont.

i have a few ideas...pm me if interested

    Internal resampling! Almost forgot that
  • edited 7:13AM
This is one hell of a list!!!!

Right now with bounce to individual tracks I i will use BM2 to get me started with sample based beats then export and take them to the DAW. This will keep me going for the next 12 months until the stuff on the list is running.

THANKS Intua and do not forget the user experience side of things, features are not everything.

    It's easy.

    1. Audio tracks.
    2. Much better effects.
    3. 'Liquid' audio.

I have one simple wish besides audio tracks, an extra zoom button that zooms fully in so I can easily find zero crossings when chopping. As much as I love spreading my fingers, this would make life so much easier.

-Key and Scale selector for the keyboard
    -Multiband EQ with Q
-Ability to have emailed or downloaded MIDI files "Open in" Beatmaker when selected

Midi Clock input. Am I the only one who thinks this is important. Any seq/drum machine since Midi was invented (the 80"s)had Song tempo/start/stop/position etc. Why is this such an issue for developers. It would allow anyone to sync properly BM to Ableton/Logic/Cubase as the master. It is a midi standard that is well defined and part of Core audio. Midi sync output is virtually pointless, Why? because the other way around is much more difficult if you have audio recorded into your DAW.
To truly sync that way you need wordclock etc and then you are getting into grief and money!!!.
Cmon guys this has been there for the last 25 years!!!!!!
