iZotope releasing iDrum iPhone edition

edited September 2008 in General
Well, looks like "big boys" are jumping on iPhone app bandwagon... http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/idrum/iphone/

• Looks interesting, though I wish people would stop with the drum apps already and give us something for melodies too!

I just bought the "club" edition to check it out. Am I understanding correctly that I can't replace any of the sounds? The 4x4 grid means I get to make a 16 bar loop, but that's it, right?

Because if so: http://edge5.dealsdirect.net/images/pro ... 1_4267.jpg

Totally agree with You. We really need some synths happening on iPhone asap...
BTW; at this stage I'm buying them all, well the worthy ones (BeatMaker, IR-909 and both iDrums) they're cheap as chips so who cares if I loose interest, but the question remains - why there is not a single synth/drum combo app available yet..?!
(thanks for hijacking my post on "bluelounge" )
Edit; Just visited apps store and bought this:

Haven't tried it yet since my iPhone 3G was sent away today for replacement due to infamous "cracks"...
Edit 2; Hey Tarekith... Your music is absolutely brilliant... Anyone on this board should check this out:

Do Yourself a favor and download it NOW... (while It lasts)
• Hey thanks for listening to my tunes man.

Idrum is a pretty sweet app, I like the interface and how you can shake the phone to clear patterns.

even though for its name sake, Beat Maker is surely great at Beats. i, personally, see it more like an iMPC. Its incredibly MPC'ish thanks to its ability to import your own sounds. And don't let that stop you from importing synth sounds to get more of an actual production out of your kits. For years i wrote tracks on nothing but an MPC and a few FX processors. Of course having a solid filter on every sound made creating melodies easier (Intua, you listening? add a filter section to the edit page ), and of course the old pitch mode that allowed you to spread one sound over 16 separate pitches can be mimicked while creating your own kit, even if you just set it up for 4, 6 or 8 notes)

Anyways, the point i am trying to make is BeatMaker has limitations, sure. But limitations breed creativity.
Welcome limitations as without limitations we would have no need for work arounds and new ways to think of creating, and that just makes for dull creations. You can get great synth lines out of BeatMaker. "Every Tool Is A Weapon If You Hold It Right"

Show me how - filter and resonance + c,c#,d,d#,e,f,f#,g,g#,a,a#,b,,,c, standard keyboard + drums -kick, snare, hi-hats, toms, cymbals, etc; and I give You another $20.

Yea the implemtaton of the iDrum is nice. Have gotten some useful drum beats out of it and the drum samples are nice and useful. Good for drums like the volume pan feature. I think the fact you can't save a wave file sucks but you can save a ring tone?

All in all Beat Maker is fantastic as it is a real instrument for musicians. I have a project I need to get done while on the road and have the kits almost done. It is great.

This is sad that mixtiki is no longer in development for the phone.

I still prefer beatmaker.

I have Beatmaker and iDrum Club. I like both a lot. Although you can use both to make similar music, they have very different purposes (at least they do for me):

Beatmaker is a mini-DAW for offline use. I personally can't use it live in a very useful way for various reasons, but some of the features like individual groove are really great for constructing music by building and layering. I hope that intua takes that aspect of the program to the limit (for all sorts of automation) because it is easy to use and gives very interesting results quickly. I'd like to see the same interface for stereo pan, filter automation, trance gate, etc.

iDrum excels at live use and improvisation - the interface design is really fantastic for it. I use Cakewalk Project5 (on Windows) which has a feature called Groove Matrix that is meant for live performance and improvised song construction. iDrum takes this impromptu construction concept even further with its layered "squares," and it has been thought out ground up around the iPhone format, including breaking out of the traditional left-to-right view of time.

Beatmaker is certainly more "serious" in the sense that you can import and export samples, wavs, midi, and kits. In that respect iDrum really is a $5 program and you shouldn't expect it to be more.

All this within a month of the app store opening is pretty cool. I really like to see apps using the features and format of the phone in creative ways. How long until we're modulating filters by shaking and tipping?

iZotope have just released iDrum version 1.64 (desktop edition - VSTi, AU, RTAS, MAS) that allows to import/export samples, kits, patterns and songs in and from iPhone iDrum edition
Finally I can lay down some ideas on iPhone during my lunch break and master them in studio using Cubase or Live after work
That's what I call useful iPhone app...

You can sync projects, samples, kits and MIDI scores already with BeatMaker 1.0.2 and BeatPack 0.9.
iDrum desktop cost like $79, which I personally think is a rip-off. With $20 you get BeatMaker and the free BeatPack.

Just my 2 cents ...
