Deleting the Built-In Presets

Okay guys, BM2 comes with a bunch of presets that eat up a bit of space on your iDevice. What if you're never going to use those presets? They're just taking up space you could be using for your own samples!

So here's how to cut BM2 down to size by deleting the built-in presets:

NOTE: I did this to BM2 on my iPad and iPhone 4 using my MacBook Pro. The instructions should be pretty similar for anyone using Windows. You do not need to be jailbroken to do this! You follow these directions at your own risk!

Download and install an app called Phone Disk here: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.macroplant.com/phonedisk/">http://www.macroplant.com/phonedisk/</a><!-- m -->

Use Phone Disk to mount your iDevice, and in the system tray icon menu, change the connection root to BeatMaker 2.

You should now be able to browse the internals of BM2 using Finder.

Right click on BeatMaker 2.app and choose "Show Package Contents". In the new window, navigate to the "library" folder. This is where the presets and demo songs are stored. Delete the contents of this folder and empty your trash.

Unmount your iDevice using Phone Disk. The next time you run BM2, you'll notice all of the presets are gone, freeing up space on your iDevice. I managed to save about 700MB by deleting all of the presets.

    Ah, that sucks. Maybe Windows can't view the contents of .app files? .app files are merely folders themselves, believe it or not.

    If someone is feeling adventurous, they can try copying the BeatMaker 2.app file to their desktop, delete the .app extension, open the folder, delete the presets, re-add the .app extension and copy it over the old one.

    I'm not sure that'll work but if it breaks the app on your iDevice you can always delete it and reinstall it.

    It dosen't show anything at all it mouts the BM2 folder but when you view it there is nothing at all there, it's just empty <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( -->

    Unfortunately this might be a limitation of viewing iOS internals on Windows. It works better on Macs for obvious reasons.

    If anyone on Windows gets it to work, please keep this thread updated.

    I introduced this on release day for those who don't have a WIFI connection.. I have XP and it works perfect...

    I think you were talking about Iphone explorer, not Idisk. Iphone explorer works fine for me too (on xp)
    If you have any luck with i disk let me know
