frequent Low System Memory messages + kudos

edited February 2011 in Support
Hello,

I am getting frequent low system memory messages on both my iPhone 4 and iPad. Sometimes it's even right when I start the app. I'm not doing anything very complicated- 4 or 5 instruments at the most, with default polyphony settings. I'm not running any other apps. Is this normal? Are there any settings I should be adjusting?

Other than that I am really impressed with Beatmaker 2. I've had the first Beatmaker since day 1, and while I was really into the design and execution of it, there wasn't quite enough there to do the kind of compositions I wanted to do. I got a lot of mileage out of the Roland PMA-5 and Yamaha QY-70 back in the day, and I've been looking for an iOS equivalent since the first iPhone. With BM 2 you've hit it out of the park, with the ease of cobbling patterns quickly into a song structure and the quantity of presets and sound creation options. Bravo!

    Hi,

If you encounter such messages, just close some apps to free a lil' RAM:

Double tap the Home button and close the apps you don't use by tapping on the cross in the upper left corner and you're good to go

Hey thanks, Daz, but I'm not running any other apps, which is why it seems abnormal.

    cheers!

i'm on jailbroken ipad. i really recommend jailbreaking if you're gonna use bm2 a lot, b/c you can use a quick-menu (sbsettings) to instantly stop processes and free up ram. theres no way to do this in non-jb ios. even when you close applications running in the background, there are still processes going on that you can't stop without being jailbroken. every time a get a low mem message, all i have to do is tap the corner of the screen and push a button called "free ram" and everything is sorted out. takes like 3 seconds. and it goes without saying, of course, that if you're gonna jailbreak, BUY bm2.
  • Here is the problem.... im running an ipad, but it doesent matter what you run, all ipads wether it be 16 32 or 64 gigs (and that goes for iphone also excluding iphone 4) only have 256 megabytes or ram, this cannot be upgraded ......The only solution is A PC TWIN SOFTWARE VERSION OF BM that we can save files to and finsh editing IT IS THE ONLY SOLUTION!!!!! PASS IT ON>>>>>>> JOHNNYHENNESSY.
  • Try a hard reboot of the phone if you haven't turned it off in a while. Also, in the phone settings under BM2 you can change the audio latency to high; this should help.

MobileMe was the culprit. I turned off push notifications for mail, etc. and the problem stopped. Not a big deal on the iPad, but sort of annoying on the iPhone. That's the price we pay for trying to turn a telephone into a recording studio
