Manaslu trek

I've been planning a trek in Nepal for a while now and have been researching different routes. Wanting to avoid the crowded trails, I came across the Manaslu trek - it looks picturesque and less crowded than the popular destinations. I'm curious to know how suitable it is for a self-guided trek: is it possible to do it without a guide, how difficult is the navigation, and what is the situation with accommodation and permits?

  • The Manaslu trek ? Nice pick! It’s like the Annapurna Circuit’s quieter, more mysterious cousin.

Self-guided? Totally doable if you're experienced and confident with navigation, but it’s not 100% solo-friendly – the region is remote and has some tricky river crossings and trail conditions.
Navigation : Moderate to challenging in parts – maps or GPS help a lot.
Accommodation : Teahouses exist, but they’re basic and fewer than on Everest or Annapurna trails.
Permits : Yep, required – Manaslu Conservation Area + Restricted Zone permit (usually handled by local agencies).
So while you can trek without a guide, many opt for one due to the remoteness and regulations. Either way, pack your sense of adventure! 🥾✨

  • This is a great option if you want to get away from the crowded routes. The Manaslu trek passes through picturesque places and traditional villages, but you can’t go it alone; you need a licensed guide and a partner. The route is not too difficult, but the Larke Pass requires preparation. Accommodation is simple lodges, and permits are issued through an agency.
