White countertops – nightmare or worth it?
Okay, confession: I love the look of bright, white countertops. They make the kitchen feel huge and clean (at least on Pinterest). But I also have two kids, a dog, and a husband who thinks wiping surfaces is optional. I’m worried I’ll be cleaning every 10 minutes or regretting the choice. Anyone living with white countertops and can tell me if it’s a dream or a daily battle?

Been there! I drooled over white kitchens forever, but I was terrified of constant scrubbing. The trick is picking the right material. I chose a white quartz with subtle veining, and honestly, it’s been great. Because quartz is non-porous, I don’t have to worry about stains soaking in. Spaghetti night? No problem. Red wine spill? Wipe and done. It still looks crisp and modern without making me lose my mind. I got mine through here: https://ps-countertops.com/ and they had tons of white styles. I say go for it if you love the look.
That gives me hope—thanks for sharing your real-world take!
For pet messes, a standard floor cleaner won’t cut it. You’ll want an enzymatic cleaner—these contain natural enzymes that break down urine and feces at the molecular level, eliminating the source of the smell instead of masking it. You can find these at any pet store or online
I also like light furniture. But a dog in the house, that's no reason to give up on what you love. Every dog owner has had to clean up after their pet at some point — it's part of living with a living, loving creature.
The key is consistency. I recently got a new family member. This is a Cavapoo dog. I found here https://cavapoo-puppy.dog/blog/training/how-to-potty-train-a-cavapoo-and-stop-indoor-accidents-25/ expert advice on how to potty train a Cavapoo helpful — and that was the best first step for me.
Potty training reduces indoor accidents and, in turn, helps control odor at the source. Also, I cleaned thoroughly, act quickly, and establish a routine. And pretty quickly I noticed that my house smelled fresh again, and my dog knew exactly where to go.
