I'm gonna have to go with an automatable filter with resonance.
  • edited 5:42AM
definitely more effects like wahwah, flanger, echo.
but also, EXTREMELY want ability to pitch-change in the sequencer screen. That shouldn't be too hard to implement since the whole slider-bar style is already implemented when you edit a pattern in the sequencer.

I'm gonna change mine after reading another post in another thread: To be able to use the Safari zooming technique to zoom in the sample editor, which should also automatically mark start and end times at zero crossings, I don't think it does that currently.
  • edited 5:42AM
Changing pitch in the sequencer would be good as well as being able to record the pitch (and velocity) changes. Keyboard? should be just be a graphical control of the aforementioned. But I'd sooner see:
Ability to grunge the delay (space echo style)
    Reverb
    ADSR for samples
    Filter

    I will have to support the 'zooming' feature (since I suggested it in the other thread) <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->
  • Definitely the ability to play samples melodically, aka pitching in the sequencer.

piano/keyboard option. to create broader melodies versus the 16 pads.

8 track voice recording (or more). "i know u can do ur recording on ur pc or at the local studio, but having the option to rec. ur ideas and hear them while away from home would be great.

    ...and,

definatel the ability to make the patterns/bars longer (8-16-32) like posted above.
  • edited 5:42AM
not sure if this has been covered in another thread or not, but I would love more control over copying/deleting files and kits... as well as knowing what the ceiling for disk usage is in MBs... and some kind of display showing the remaining disk space. <!-- s8-) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cool.gif" alt="8-)" title="Cool" /><!-- s8-) -->

is 620Mhz processor + OSX combo not fast enough for iphone beyond "boom chuck, boom, boom chuck"?
  • Automat-able filter for sure

Also would be cool to be able to change the number of beats in a bar FOR SOME PATTERNS - so that you can play poly rhythms

Delay setting in MS (and allow high level of feedback for experimental/drone work)

Large crate of beer (or favourite tipple) to be presented to the developers for making such a fantastic toy (toy in the sense that waldorf XTk and Lexicon MPX 1 are also "toys" and the shop I bought them from is the "toy shop")

Here's an excerpt from another post I did:

    What I'd like to see:

I'm using BeatMaker as a "starter tool" for ideas that I can then sync over to LogicPro. New effects are cool, but the efx on a bigger platform are obviously better due to a full blown Mac's processor strength. So "operational" stuff that keeps your creative flow is personally more importiant from where I sit. It sucks if you spend half your time fighting the software.. right? BeatMaker is well thought out !

    ..I'd love to see:

    1) Mixer page
    2) Darker division lines in step sequencer to easily see groups of 4 bars better..
    3) 4, 8 & 32nd note resolution for step sequencer
    4) Delete internal files [which I believe is coming in 1.0.1]
    5) Option for battery icon to watch your portable power and maybe a "reminder screen" to put your phone in airplane mode, so when the phone switches to an incoming call, it won't wipe out your work.
    6) A simple synth or a way to split a single sample over several pads automatically at different pitches. Load a bass or synth sound and you got the compositional makings of a song .. Now song ideas can quickly fly !
    7) A million dollar bank account to give to these guys. They broke ass on this so far.!

There are a ton of other things, but realistically, the stuff in these forums would fill a good year of writing code. Remember, this is a iPhone, not an 8-core Mac. So there are some limits to what that processor can do all at once. [remember there are other apps and processes related to the phone side that are running at the same time!] This is a testomony to Intua for GREAT code and to Apple for a full featured PORTABLE device ! You guys do know that a form of OSX is running on your phone.. right ?

I just read that research is going into using the unleashed power of onboard secondary Graphics Chips [GPU] for crunching non-graphic data. It's apparently a but hard to convert the code to "graphics speak" and back to "program speak" again, but who knows.. A future apple update can boost the processor power and all kinds of cool stuff can be added. And if that isn't enough, rumors are out that apple has some REALLY cool new powerful, portable devices under development.

BeatMaker is NOT static. It will grow. But aren't ya glad you can at least do this, while the rest of the world is still hung up on Guitar Hero ? {Which I also love..lol]

    Keep posting !!

As I said on an ealier post I used Griff on my pocketpc and it had more features than beatmaker at the moment. I had 32mb of ram and a slow arm cpu. I am sure beatmaker will beat all this other apps.

griff had a real piano roll and sequencer style editor but beatmaker's interface is much more clean and intuitive.

Some ideas in no special order:
    * As mentioned above: Keyboard. A must.
    * Crappy recording through the phone-mic: Would be soooo cool.
    * Step recording in old school tracker-stylee.
    * Quantize-parameters. Shuffle, 4/8/16/32
    * Line-drawing when using 2 fingers in Groove/Velocity
    * Duplicate pattern in Pad-mode too
    * When in Pad-mode - button to put current pad-pattern into current position in song.
    * When in Pad-mode - Record live velocity with touch strip
    * Save current state when user press home-button.

First off, GREAT JOB on this amazing application!!!!!

    Must have feature:

    - 16 levels like the MPC 2000XL.
    - Ability to use the iPhone headset as a mic for tracking (wishful thinking lol)
    - A couple of filters to run my samples thru

    Thats all for the moment.....

    * Save current state when user press home-button.

This would be a great option that the user could select or deselect...

    Nice program,
I would like lo fi sampling through built in mic also.
It would be cool if they could make some effects or controls that utilized the accelerometer.

Add another vote for 'VIRTUAL KEYBOARD (so that we can play melodies and edit them with a piano roll)'

To trigger a sample in gate mode is most definitely needed. That's when the sample only plays while the pad is held down and the sound stops as soon as the pad is let go.beat pack would be really dope if we were able to trigger and edit the samples before loading them on the iphone/ipod.

In the words of the song ... "Everybody needs a 303"!
Just like the one in "Microbe" then this would be "da bomb" (if that is the correct use of the term!)

Really impressed so far and aware of the limitations of the platform but just a few suggestions for new features -

Looping of samples - I want to be able to set loop points on the samples so I can create pads and drones etc. Also the ability to hit a pad a second time to stop the looped sample. I love the idea of having a bunch of textures, strange electronic sounds, found sounds etc that you can play live from the pads. Of course all the cool synthesis tools like filters and envelopes will be very welcome also!

Improved file management. I think we all want to see this happen as it is a little creaky right now. I'm sure it is coming.

Beat Maker software - please can we save our folder settings so we don't have to reset them each time we load.

Fantasy requests - Some cool use of the touch screen for manipulation/modulation. Imagine being able to use it as a XYZ pad with each having user determined destinations such as pitch, filter, sample start or loop points. Touch pad scrubbing of samples. I don't know all the technicalities so I'm not sure what is and isn't possible but I'm just letting my imagination get carried away.

I would say a note repeat feature such as on MPCs. I dont know if i replied to this post before but if i didnt this is definately the feature i would want hands down. Note repeat on the fly in 1/8s 1/16s and so on. That would be dope

#1 VIRTUAL KEYBOARD would be awesome

#2 A simple way to animate and record (Simple Keyframes) for Pitch and volume.

But I'm still in awe of what the program is . Oh it looks like the 1.01 update is here. <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

Yeah, a loop feature like old trackers used to have would be really cool. Especially if you could get it down to single cycle waveforms and make synths with them like you could with trackers.

    My dream:

Pad Banks (16x2 at least) or Multi kit loading.
Ability to sample and chop mp3 on the ipod or iphone. (Would be the best thing ever!!)
    Panning option for the samples.
    Maybe a 4 band EQ instead a 3 band.
Master section with EQ and compression (compression might be too much to handle for the device)

much more simple import export from computer to ipod touch/iphone

usable exports for use in other programs

beatmaker is great fun, you can compose some fun stuff in the park, and than use it further at your favorite music program...

actually the clumsy and non intuative way of saving files, not to mention exporting or importing
is realy stupid given that you have to sync. you're ipod touch / iphone with itunes every day ...
So: why not create import export folders in itunes and have them synced automatically...
Or have a sync program that does so, but than, much more intuative please that its done now.

It exports wav files that are usable in just about every audio program ever.

You don't have to sync it with iTunes every day, what are you talking about? Your statement doesn't make a ton of sense and I feel that you need to learn the program's ins and outs a bit better. You must realize that all software has it's own way of doing things, just because you aren't used to the way it works doesn't make it faulty. There are also limitations that you may not be aware of due to the way apple's SDK is set up. I have no problem with any of the things you are talking about, that is if I correctly understand what you are saying.
