When does topping up in King Shot actually make sense?

I keep seeing people talk about topping up in mobile games like King Shot, but I’m not sure when it actually makes sense. Is it just for whales or are there practical moments where a small top-up can really change progress, especially early game? I don’t want to waste money but also feel stuck sometimes.
