Reset Outlook View to Default When Outlook Looks Broken
Outlook suddenly became difficult to use on my system. The inbox layout changed automatically, folders were misplaced, and some email columns disappeared completely. I thought it was a software bug, but after some research I realized Outlook view settings can become corrupted because of add-ins, accidental changes, or PST issues.
The first fix I tried was the built-in Reset View option from the View tab. That restored the Inbox layout immediately. Afterward, I used the outlook.exe /cleanviews command to Reset Outlook View to Default for all folders at once.
I also checked Outlook add-ins because third-party integrations can affect display settings. Disabling unnecessary add-ins improved performance and stopped Outlook from freezing frequently. Running Outlook in Safe Mode also helped identify whether the issue was related to customization or application conflicts.
Even after these fixes, Outlook sometimes crashed while loading mailbox folders. I later discovered the PST file itself had corruption issues. To repair it properly, I used the DRS Softech PST Recovery Tool. It recovered all mailbox items including emails, calendars, contacts, and attachments without changing the folder hierarchy.
The recovery process was simple and didn’t require advanced technical knowledge. After repairing the PST, Outlook finally returned to normal and all layout issues disappeared. If Outlook suddenly looks broken or unreadable, trying to Reset Outlook View to Default is one of the fastest ways to troubleshoot the problem safely.
