edited October 2010 in General
hi everyone,
i'm new to all these iphone apps (finally got myself an iphone). i've had nanostudio now for about a month and am loving it. i make all kinds of music but have a soft spot for hip hop.i've already sold my outboard sampler and drum machine. it's just iphone and computer now. i've been looking into beatmaker and wanting to get it. i'm wondering if some of you who have experience with both apps could shed some light on what beatmaker could add to the party. of course beatmaker 2 looks awesome but it doesn't seem like anyone knows when it will come out. i get crazy waiting for this stuff! i just want at it!!

thanks for the response. so is there anything in the current beatmaker that would add to what i get in nano? i wouldn't mind buying bm1 to get started even if bm2 comes out in 2 weeks.

Hi olivegoose.. Nanostudio is a great app.. Very capable.. The only thing I would complain about it is the audio interpolation, when you try to pitch tune drums, you get frequencies ringing in a way that ruins the sound of the drums.. this also happens with the Eden synth, but with specially tailored presets, it's harder to hear making it less of a problem... And even if you don't pitch the drums at all and this doesn't matter to you, the overall sound of the samples on the pads seems weaker than BM, and I find myself turning up all drum samples and tracks up to the max to get anything ok out of it..

How I use it? I make all my drum and sample sequences here on BM, as the interpolation on BM is perfect.. If you pitch an 808 kick down as far as it will go, the integrity of the 808 is still intact. Also I feel more of a "Thump" in BM...

After getting the beat going, I export it as WAV and upload it via BeatPack to PC.. After getting it on the PC, I turn on Nanosync, startup Nanostudio on my ipod, then import it into a folder inside NS.. Inside NS's TRG16, I load the BM WAV on a pad and match the tempo and loop it.. And if it's multiple patterns, arrange them in proper order... Then I can go into Eden, and add a Bassline, Lead, Strings, etc..

I then can either export the synth parts, back into BM for further ideas, or just export all tracks individually, BM and NS both, and import them into Cubase and arrange them with more comfort and ease...

So to me, the copy/paste is not such a big deal since I have worked both importing applications to my advantage..

From what I hear, The dev will be fixing the Interpolation soon, so when they do, other than the sequencer being limitless on BM and NS only 2, I really won't see the need for BM1 when it does... but the way it is now, I need both equally.

Now, when BM2 realeases, knowing their sound engine, we might not see the need for NS, but that is still up in the air... And in the end if you are happy with your preference, that's what's most important.. Me, I prefer both, than just one or the other, by themselves at this point... That may change though... I go where ever it is better for my music and am not married to anything other than my wife..

Great workaround Sept. Didnt think of that one.
Still, Nano wit copy/paste would be very beneficial for on the go music making and just improving the workflow between NS, BM and copy/paste apps.
Im sure NS's dev will pull through.
