TRIM MODE

DO I NEED TO CUT OUT UNWANTED PARTS OF A SAMPLED SONG BEFORE I CHOP IN BM2, AS IN EXTRACTING THEM USING A DIFFERENT MUSIC MAKING PROGRAM? FOR EXAMPLE-I HAVE A SONG FROM MY ITUNES THAT IS 6 MINUTES LONG. I LOAD THE SONG INTO BM2. NOW, THERE IS A 30 SECOND SECTION IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SONG THAT I WANT TO CHOP INTO 32 PIECES. I HAVE NO USE FOR ANY OF THE REST OF THE SONG BESIDES THAT 30 SECONDS-I DON'T WANT IT ON ANY PADS, I DON'T WANT IT TAKING UP VALUABLE MEMORY, I WANT TO ONLY BE DEALING WITH THE PARTS I NEED. WHAT'S THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY TO DEAL WITH THIS SITUATION? AS OF RIGHT NOW, WHEN I CHOP SOMETHING, THE FINAL PAD OF MY CHOPS JUST PLAYS THE ENTIRE REST OF THE SONG! HOW DO I "TRIM THE FAT" TO SAVE TIME AND MEMORY?

ANOTHER THING- IS IT POSSIBLE TO GO BACK AND FINELY ADJUST THE START AND END POINTS OF PIECES THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN CHOPPED AND LAID OUT ON PADS, A LA "TRIM MODE" ON AN MPC? OR DOES HOW YOU INITIALLY CHOP IT HAVE TO BE THE FINAL SAY? IT WOULD BE NICE IF YOU COULD CONSTANTLY ADJUST THE START AND END POINTS OF THE INDIVIDUALLY CHOPPED SAMPLES WHILE YOU ARE IN THE PROCESS OF LAYING DOWN A TRACK, BECAUSE YOU WANT TO BE ABLE TO CHANGE THINGS AROUND QUICKLY ON THE FLY AS IDEAS DEVELOP OFF OF OTHER IDEAS. IF YOU HAVE TO RE-CHOP YOUR ENTIRE SECTION INTO MANY PIECES AGAIN JUST TO ADJUST THE BEGINNING POINT OF ONE CHOP WITHIN THE SECTION, THAT IS REALLY LAME.

I KNOW I MAY BE ASKING SOME PRETTY BASIC QUESTIONS, BUT SOMEONE OUT THERE HAS TO ADMIT THAT THE MANUAL ONLY COVERS THE BASICS OF THE BASICS, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO SAMPLE CHOPPING. AND SO FAR, NONE OF THE YOUTUBE BM2 TUTORIALS HAVE REALLY GONE INTO ENOUGH DETAIL FOR ME. THANKS!

    Hello,

What you can do is first load your song from the Sample Lab, and use the Trim function to save to an audio file the part of the song you're interested into. You can then load this sample file in the Chop Lab.

As for the non-destructive start/end points, we might bring this feature back in a future update.

    Cheers,
    Colin
