Although the interface is a little different, you can use BM2's pattern editor the same way you used the step-sequencer from BM1.
Just select the quantize grid mode you want (for example 1/16), select the Draw tool, and start turning on/off notes for each grid step.
I'm missing a real step sequencer, too. BM2 has NO step sequencer - it's a common "piano-roll-editor". At the moment it's a pain to sequence (and edit notes) in this view...
But with some really little workflow enhancements the current piano roll editor could feel like a "real" step sequencer:
- pre listen sounds/notes: it should be possible to pre listen sounds/notes when touching the piano roll! Edit: "Of course" it should be possible that BM2 is able to record when using the piano roll to pre-listen sounds/notes. This has the huge advantage (and is necessary) that the user gain a directly feedback of what he/she has recorded - and can make changes immediately, without diving through pages again.
- jumping between bars/patterns: it is not possible to change the bar/pattern view just by ONE click. To display the next pattern it's necessary to leave the editor and enter a new one - to display the next bar it's necessary to zoom/scroll all the time... With additional backward/forward buttons (<<, >>) this problem could be solved easily.
- automatically zoom (in height) also with the keyboard instrument: like the automaticallly zoom-view when a drum module gets edited (just the notes/pads are displayed which currently contains a loaded sample, not all 128 pads are displayed) - the piano roll of a keyboard sampler should behave same. Otherwise it's always necessary to zoom (vertically) to gain a workable size for drawing/editing notes.
- shortcut to enter the instrument/FX track directly: to make some little changes of sound settings (in drum machine, keyboard or FX), it's necessary to make a huge detour: leaving edit view... press home button... scroll and find the track/instrument you want to edit... enter instrument view. This could be solved by just press 1 button in edit view! (By the way: it should be also possible to enter an intrument directly in arrangement view - i.e. by double-click the desired "track name area")
This are just 4 easy changes/implementations which could speed up the workflow extremely, not just in terms of a step sequencer!
Hope you Intua guys will think about it... <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->
One important addition for issue #1 I forgot (I assumed that i'ts self-evident):

This has the huge advantage (and is necessary) that the user gain a directly feedback of what he/she has recorded - and can make changes immediately, without diving through pages again.

I did an edit in the start post. Thanks
