Estimated Time For iPad App?

Dropbox would mean you wouldn't need a computer to access files. It's a locker (2gb on the free account) on the cloud... It's accesible directly within the ipad... And shows up as a folder on your computer, meaning you could also create sounds on your computer, upload them and some other time download them to your ipad when you need them... Also, you could back up your projects there... Free space on your ipad, then re-download them and keep working on them whenever you wish.... It's a completly different concept.

Intua... I was also thinking, if you plan on integrating dropbox for the next update, you guys could round it up allowing us to configure and access ftp accounts as well... If you have a chance download an app called ifiles... It has this, and other cloud lockers configured... I tend to use ftp a lot, and it would allow some of us to have an even better cloud at our disposal.

    Cheers
  • Hey Rango,

I'm not saying the whole business model should based around in-app purchases. I, like you, hate companies that do it (especially when an app is first introduced). But at the same time, I know that BM2 was created to do one thing, and it does that - well. But, for things that it does outside of that concept, should cost money, I think. Like I said, I think it has the potential for revenue. Who is to stop them from hiring a person to work on in-app purchase type of things, for the purpose of additional revenue (which I hopes offsets the cost of the dedicated person working on in app purchases).

This person can work on off-shoot stuff, that the company never intended, but we as a community demand.

Hi... I understood what you meant... I think there's a market for it... Hell, i would buy in app items if I thought I had a use for them... I'm the first one to be uber excited about the daw scene developing for ios... I really think it's wonderfull... I just don't think that the app should be 'intended' for only one thing... It should keep growling... If intua has this community going on, it's because they know they, as a company, and us as their community work together to achieve a better product... Companies need markets as much as markets need companies... Is a simbiosis... Problem arises when the company gets hooked on selling everything in-app ... So they start pushing stuff that you don't even know is good... Take for example some lousy fx for amplitube or mostly all of tabletop's stuff...

I don't see ableton's community telling ableton to charge more for updates... Ableton sets the price on every version they sell... I think Intua should aim for the same... The best mobile daw they can produce... That works... At a fair price...

I just wanted to tell intua to skip the in-app marketing frenzy and focus on hard development... But it doesn't mean I wouldn't buy in-app stuff that I think really is worth it.... I'd most likely pay for a wonderfull synth and for audio tracks integrated on the sequencer... I'd also pay for a good amp and fx simulation studio...

    Regards

Oh, ok i understand now about Dropbox. it a company/website.
I never had a need to use them, but now that you explained it, that would be very useful. Even with the free 2g account i could store most my samples or whatever.
The problem is i don't have a internet connection often, so some thing like itunes file sharing would be better for me in BM2

    Hi,
I would be happier if you could just make your synth accept sounfont (.sf2) or even better .exs (logic's and garageband's exs24) files.... that would blow out everything... I know additive and substractive synths rock... but using real multilayered - multinote sample - industry standard - libraries would be just as good... and your app would be the king.... the only synth in the app store that takes sf2 files is bs-16i but it lacks in many respects... still a toy in many ways...

I also have one question... what ever happened to dropbox? did you guys get to integrate it? if not... i think it's a really important addition... the API isn't hard.

We're still considering SF2 support for a future update.
As for DropBox, support has already been developed into BM2 but we decided to postpone it's availability to the next update, as we found out a couple of technical issues before releasing BM 2.1. It is forthcoming!

    Cheers,
    Colin

@Colin was there any reason why the hyped and overtly anticipated audio track recording was omitted from 2.1? i saw some threads of people (myself included) wanting that as a feature rather badly.
  • Ragno,

I hear what your saying. I guess the main reason i ask for this is because i hate that i have to use copy/paste, And work with multiple apps to get what im looking for. It would be nice to basically have BM2 with a synth and tracks for recording. Whatever could motivate them to do this next is all I want.....i hate that I have to press the ipad home button to get a decent synth sound, the tenori for beeps, and one of the DAW apps to record. Would be nice to have all this in one app. Abelton, Logic, Protools, let you do all this. There is not one app in there in the ios world that can (with the ability of choplab). Choplab is nice, but included as part of a complete studio type of thing....perfection for my workflow.
  • Maybe apple should just create a mixer/recorder to work with all music apps...with a layout like tabletop that plays sounds of all apps while in the mode, and wiring your various apps to channels like tabletop. Dont sure how easy that is though.

    "hyped an overtly anticipated" audiotracks?

Intua has never hyped that, and has never given us a reason to think they'd be in the update.... Your "overt" anticipation seems to be misplaced.

I also hate changing apps to do stuff... It gets even harder to play stuff correctly if there's no background music permited in some apps... It becomes guesswork at best...

Beautifulperson's idea is really good... A sort of digital audio bridge... Something like cycling 74 soundflower for OSX.... A virtual audio device that connects audio between apps... Someone should really code this idea... It would kick ass....

If this never comes along though, i really think we should keep pushing our favorite developers to create fuller apps that break known barriers... Once one of these mobile apps integrates midi, audio (tracks), synths and samples, and flexible sequencing, we'll be on our way to naming one or two true "winners" (no pun intended to charlie sheeh)

This stage of development reminds me so much many many years ago when I was looking for regular computer music making software but there was none... Only atari-like trackers (i dont't like trackers) .... A cakewalk app that was buggy as hell... And hammerhead... That could only track one beat of 8 bars.... And my pentium-1 would cry.... Then a few options came out... And they improved over time... Untill full daws came to light...

I just hope whe get there faster... ;o)

the 2.1 suspense is killing me~!

I don't mind BM not having a synth or audio tracks, ..but what it Really needs is SIDECHAINING-!!

Sidechaining wold be great, but I think for that we wolud first need a PRO compressor that could sidechain the triggered transients... I have yet to see one on ios ... Most of the compression I see on apps is more of a toy... Pro compression consumes large amounts of cpu, more than the device could possibly handle.... Yet, having more flexible bus routing in bm2 would be a start... In the end, sidechaining is all about bus routing.

What i do with the Bm2 is I make all my rough drafts, especially because i'm always on the go. when I come home I just export/import all my sounds into my reason program, and master all my sounds like that. I love Bm2 for its quality on the ios. When the ios becomes more powerful and I'm sure it will, and the ipad increases ram we will be able to create better sound quality and have more room for other mixers. For now we should all reap the benefits of this update, I'm sure if Intua was to give us all the things we wanted at once there would be no use for this forum because we basically have it all.

    Any word?????

    SO ANXIOUS!!!!!!
  • Ragno,

You seem to be pretty knowledgable about how the various apps and how things can be implemented. Do you think having a "random" button for the keyboard instruments can appease some of us looking for a synth? I know it may be hit or miss with the "random" function, but for those who are ignorant and dont really know how each filter or parameter works, i think it may be a good idea. BM2 seems to have added those features so we can synthesize? their given sounds, but again for those of us who dont know how to use it, I think a random may be useful. They can also a "reset" function to bring it back to initial filter settings and parameter. Think that would quiet the request for the short term?

Also, what is sf2 and logic sound file extension you were talking about earlier? Will that allow me to bring in the sounds from my logic pro?

Also, what is sf2 and logic sound file extension you were talking about earlier? Will that allow me to bring in the sounds from my logic pro?

Regarding the randomize question... I never seem to get a nice sound out of random parameters, but maybe thats because i'm such a neurotic when it comes to designing sounds... So I tend to feel random as too chaotic for my taste... In fact virsyn's addictive synth has a dice that you roll to get random parameters and I've read posts about people that love that kind of feature... I just tend to turn down all parameters and start from scratch... Although I've seen random parameters in pro synths that seem to use some nice algorithm based on harmonic synthesis (or resinthesis) that always seem to come up with nice results... If intua where to develop a randomize option I would think the would have to research and develop a way to obtain -not so chaotic- random patterns that are effectively based on harmonics... More like sine- saw-tooth-etc presets mixing each other in harmonical ways.

Regarding sf2 and exs sample libraries... Let me explain a little background... If you could say that additive and substractive synths (take for example addictive synth and sunrizer synth) are like colors from a pallet a painter uses to mix and match to create a painting... Sampled libraries are usually more like a photograph that one takes of those sounds... That photo comes in the form of various "snapshots" that are conformed of wavs or aiffs or other sound sources... A sampled instrument uses this 'snapshots' and has them arranged in a way that playing a note triggers one, playing another triggers the next and so on... The nice part is that not only can a sampled library trigger a note, it can also trigger a different sound or 'snapshot' depending on the midi velocity, and on a midi cc note parameter... So in fact, a single sampled instrument can trigger many many files depending on the parameters a user defines...

Soundfont is a technology that creative labs (soundblaster) developed in the 90's, following the first sampler technology created by digidesign (pro tools) ... Which was called Samplecell... The soundfont file contains info on how to use the wavs and can trigger as much as 8 different samples per velocity layer on each note... Yet, it cannot trigger files with midi cc changes... And another limitation is that when you trigger one note at one velocity and then again the same note at a higher velocity, no 'equal power' crossfade is executed... So sounds don't morph into one another... For this reason I deem sounfont files obsolete.... On the other hand, exs files, which is a format developed be emagic, then acquired by apple for logic and garageband, is a very robust sample technology that allows to have an indefinite number of samples triggered by note, velocity or midi cc number, and they all crossfade when changing parameters... Meaning that you can have trully expressive instruments that use many samples to accurately allow you to achieve performances full of organic changes and variations that make the listening experience much fuller... Not to mention the endless possibilities one gets when paired with lfo, delay, etc. Modulation.

You could in fact import your logic exs24 libraries to a sampler synth that accepts exs files... In fact you can do this right now with garageband for ipad... There is a program by Redmatica (an italian sound design software company) that allows you to import your garageband for ipad projects, insert an exs fole, then reimport to the ipad, and voilá, it's there for you to use.... The downside for me is... I don't enjoy garageband for ipad very much... Without note editing there there's not much usefor me... As I said before, i'm neurotic and need my riffs and phrases to be almost tempo perfect...

I really think exs files should be intua's next frontier, as well as audio tracks on the timeline... The power of this mobile daw paired to those two features would really start setting appart from being just an udio tool (mpc or whatever) and moving it forward to becoming an all in one tool... A true daw.

    Cheers
  • I agree, that would be sweet....atleast for those of us who own Logic Pro. Still think having a Synth in the tool wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Is there another audio tool or bridge that can take samples from Logic and convert them to wav so we can use them in BM2???
  • Thanks for the info too Ragno, it was very useful and helpful...
  • edited 7:05PM
Anytime... by the way... it wouldn't just be useful to logic users... it would be useful to other sampler users... most of the top -industry standard- samplers accept exs24 files... kontakt for sure does... as well as digidesign´s structure and reasons nn-xt
