In terms of quantizing in general... when you record a pattern, the program seems to automatically lock the notes to the grid. In a sense, does the program automatically quantize?
By default quantize it set to 1/16th when recording. You can change it within the Recording panel (REC. button in the transport bar) to another value or disable it.
The best way to achieve swing time is to use 32nd notes and shift around the snares or hi hats to achieve swing. Its hard to explain but that's the way to do it on Beatmaker 2.
Comments
You can add swing within the Pattern Editor. Select the notes you'd like to modify and press the quantize button (overlay icon with notes).
Also upcoming 2.2 update will bring better swing/groove options.
Cheers,
Colin

I am having a difficult time moving notes without the grid restrictions, is it even possible to freely move notes in edit mode without grid?
Also a negative swing would be nice, to bring notes forward, ie. come in sooner rather than later.
Thanks
