*Mixing a song*

edited December 2011 in General
Just a question to Intua, wondering if you have ever thought of including some type of mixing capabilities in BM. Would be insane to just mix down songs right in BM.

Three things i want most for christmas! <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->
- Vocal track
- Mixing capabilities
- Non Destructive chops/samples.

    Technically you can already mix songs down... unless you are talking about full on studio mixing with vocals.

    "Vocal track"
    Recording vocals in BM is kind of impractical if you are recording verses, but Its possible to do. The file sizes however will be huge!

    Don't completely know what you mean about the last thing you said.

    In fact, mixing means much more than mixing-down... It refers to eq'ing each track, preferably with a linear phase parametric eq, compressing each track (if needed be), reverb positioning in phase space, panning with precise stereo width... Sidechaining, delaying, soft limiting, hard limiting, geling the track with a compressor.....

    Mastering would come afterwards.

    IMHO: use a DAW to mix your tracks.

    If you use the filter and equalizer you can mix individual tracks pretty well. I just bounced down a couple of full songs and listened to them unaffected in Ableton on some KRK 6 monitors and they sound surprisingly good....maybe even better than my tracks coming out of Ableton. Use compression on your drums. I usually send all of my percussion (minus 808s) to an FX bus with a compressor on it.

    Awesome. Great advice SHK i'm taking notes. any other tips would be cool to get from you or others on this subject. SHK so how do you have your pads laid out? So you have set compression fx bus just for drums (not 808). You apply this FX bus to each individual percussion pad?

    Oh and what effect do you put on your 808's?

    I sometimes like to add some sound to my 808 kicks and bass so it can be heard, so I use a little bit of distortion to give it a slightly analog sound.
