problems importing kits from iBeatmaker

edited January 2012 in Support
Hi All,

Trying to import kits from ibeatmaker.
Have downloaded them and using fetch to get them in my phone to no success.
I can definity get into my folders and it copies succesfully.
when I close the transfer dialog it goes into updating the database..
and when I go withing beatmaker to the folder where I dropped the kits.. its empty no files.

when I connect again with fetch or filezilla I do see the files in there..
but not through beat maker.

Any help with this?

    no responses....
Well, after giving it many many tries, restarts, and different attempts and using ftp software,
finally I figured it out on my own..
And in case anyone runs into this, here is the solution..
The Kits need to be renamed.bmk2
the ones from ibeatmaker I think are just .bmk
all the files where in there, but invisible to beatmaker until I switched the extension.
  • Hi,

Please make sure your kits have the .bmk or .bmkz extension, and that you are actually loading them from the [LOAD PRESET] option of the Drum Machine. If you use the [LOAD PROJECT] option from the Studio view, you will not be able to see your drum presets, only your songs.

    Cheers,
    Colin

OK I've tried this every single which way and it simply does not work..

none of the .bmkz files (on my iMac and which i was using in Beatmaker 1 on my iPhone 3GS) load into Beatmaker 2 on the iPad!!

    I've tried ftp and DropBox

but anything with a .bmkz extension (even if i rename it to .bkm2) is completely invisible to the app..This is deeply frustrating!!

I go Load Preset in the Drum Machine and browse to My Content...nothing with .bkmz or that i have renamed to .bmk2 is visible

Can anyone confirm this actually works?!?

Ok now I've tested this thoroughly

the current Beatmaker 2 on the current iOS 5.0.1 (iPad2) does NOT load .bkmz
Beatpack files from Beatmaker 1 into the Drum Machine.

    By any transfer means whatsoever...

The only work around I have found is to :

    1. Change the extension from .bmkz to .zip

    2. Then unpack them all with any mac or win unzipping utility.

    3. The result will be Folders with samples and a single .bmk, .info and a .png

    4. Transfer those folders across to Beatmaker 2 by any of the transfer methods

The .bmk files are visible and DO work in Beatmaker 2 with the Drum Machine 'Load Preset'

From what i can see, the info and png files which were supported in the Beatmaker 1 kits do not work.
I like this app, but i have to say as a pro muso seeking some good composing tools for the iPad2, this is really not up to scratch.

Please someone test my claims and prove me wrong...i wasted 3 hours on this

When you change the file format of an instrument between app versions...from a self contained archive to a folder structure thats a fundamental change that should be in a sticky at the top of a forum.

Check out the Drop Manager iPad app. It's $0.99 but syncs with Dropbox and will unzip the .bmkz files after you rename them. Once unzipped and synced to your dropbox, you can import the kits directly into beatmaker without ever having to mess with FTP. Will try to get a video or screen grabs up soon.

Just bought beatmaker 2 and was looking for a way to import some kits/presets and wasn't aware of beatmaker 1 files being bmkz and the new ones being bmk2.

Registered to post and say thanks for this, really appreciate the post! Shame it has to be done this way or by using drop manager. Intua..wake up and support your own formats! <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->
