Make one wish

edited November 2012 in General
Actually I am really staisfied with what BM has to offer now. The tons of feature requests made here are shurely ok, but I would like to hear, what you want to have, if you had one wish only:

Mine is:

sound font 2 implementation

Because: there is a great collection of standard sounds from those times out there, especially the classical instruments libraries. Anything else can be done with one of the excellent synth/sampler orwhatever apps available.

If you agree with a wish made before, please post.
If not, make your own wish.

And keep in mind, that wishes like 'the perfect DAW with blah and blah and blah and...' can never be fulfilled now, but only sometimes.

If I could only have one other wish, it has come to the point where iTunes file sharing is tops for me. I don't trust my audio flying thru the air LOL
It's pretty utilitarian, but that's my wish

The coming update actually addresses most of the things I wanted. So, the one thing I can think of right now: better quality reverb.

Not easy to say just one simgle thing... But what I really miss is a global "jam & live mode". That means:

A pattern based "Ableton-style-mode" (of course some other sequencers already implemented something like this, too).

For me I use this type of sequencing not just in gigs, it's much more important while producing. If I already created some patterns and then jamming (try out different pattern combinations) with them - I'll get a nice feeling for a potential arrangement.

    All suggestions are good.
    Mine, would be resampling

I agree with kadath's wish and strongly with MicGee's.
  • Fx bus in the sample/chop lab.

    Pad linking would be awesome...

This feature would be a game changer.
Traditional linear sequencing is an obstacle to the creative flow, at least in my experience.
I prefer to build patterns and then chain them on the fly, as opposed to creating the whole song while writing its building blocks.

Have to admit a live mode would drive me over the top on this app. I'm using BM 2 with a Korg padKontrol or just ipad 2 by itself and have a set of about 9 songs all done with the drum machine and triggering samples live. If we could just get the extra trigger option of starting immediate, next 16th, or 32nd note, or next bar/measure per pad on the drum machine, that would be unbelievably cool.

2nd huge wish list item would be a killer VA synth. I honestly don't use the keys ever because of the sound sets and limited ability on the adsr envelopes.

Also on the drum machine it would be fantastic to be able to lock a filter knob on one pad while still being able to trigger other pads so you could be triggering other samples while sweeping the cutoff on another pad you've locked to.

I was using nanostudio for a long time and never got the hang of BM 2 until recently and the banks of pads used like an MPC is the coolest flippin live setup ever. I use Ableton on my PC, but really all I would need now is these features implemented, particularly the extra timed triggering options and killer VA, would have me use this as an exclusive.

If no VA synth, then at least better audio copy and paste from other apps I have like Sunrizer and Alchemy or Animoog would be ideal. Paste audio into a pad on the drum machine.

As far as the rest, it's a pretty comprehensive feature set for manual song making. I love it, but I so much like doing live performances on a rehearsed song over traditional track creation songs. I want to get out and do a show sometime with just BM 2 and my padKontrol. It really puts 32 pads available with the touch control on ipad 2.

Keep up the great work. I love this app.

    Spot on.
The keyboard sampler is nearly useless.
In this regard Nanostudio's rompler does a better job.
If iOS ever supports loading apps inside apps, then all the major synths could be plugged in much like AUs or VSTs, otherwise Intua should implement a synth engine inside BM2.

Sorry, but I totally disagree. This is really necessary? As for a main wish I don't understand people asking for that.

Don't we have already really nice sounding soft synths on iOS? Aren't they enough? Is it better to be "forced" to use this ONE hypothetiacal synth (which maybe doesn't sound so good as it's competition) instead of the freedom to choose this one which fits to your taste?
By the way: automation is already possible with almost every synth - and when audiobus is released....

I am just concerned with the price of audiobus, as it has yet to be announced...and it is a very very wanted.

I do agree that after that, things will change alot for imobile music. As we can bus audio from beatmaker2 to other apps thus using efx, and etc....bus in synths....in fact i am really thinking hard about ipad 4. Just concerned about ligtning and using io devices.

The reason i was pushing toward resampling so hard...is because of audiobus...
On the mpc or the mv8000 you can use effects on a pad...then resample the results to a new pad...doing this with different settings will render a morph of sample in different states...to use in different builds of the track.

This is another reason i urge intua to pay attention...
I use hardware...but i want to ditch it for apps and portability...and even though beatmaker 2 has done awesome in the app market as far as samplers go...it lacks some really basic stuff that keeps people from taking it seriously.

Although it seems we are breaking some ground now

Yes there are a bunch of IOS soft synths that are great, but I just tried recently to copy and paste from Alchemy into BM2 and it was a no go. Not for what I need. I want to put the copy onto a pad on the drum machine or even a track to then load on a pad from the output. I noticed the same thing in other soft synths and a lot of my installed apps come up to choose from, but not BM2. I think a decent two oscillator plus sub oscillator VA with effects would put this over the top for all in one live work.

My point is that BM 2 is almost there for live song playing with the right controller or even just with the ipad. I think this app is by far the easiest live playing app out there now if you want full sounds of beats, leads, bass, samples, etc. just a few more items would have me out showing skills on it. It's pretty cool to watch someone work a groovebox live if there are enough things to mix up live play with looped samples. I'm using this for live play only right now and it is the by far the most exciting app to play with.

Just the other night I was sitting at a public place jamming the drum pads and my samples and quickly gathered up a few people that started asking questions about what I was using to jam all of it live. If I want to tediously record tracks and arrange, then I can, but that's not where my fun is at. That feature I requested of synced pads to tempo and next beat or bar would just make it so I don't have to start everything all over if I'm a second off hitting a pad or trying to hit two or three pads simultaneously and having to get it absolutely perfect or I need to start over.

I'll keep my fingers crossed we get these new features implemented, but in the meantime, I'm going to keep building my song list up. So far about 10GB of samples I have put in BM 2, but really want to start getting unique samples of my own playing to loop and trigger. My only regret is waiting so long to explore what it could do while it sat on my ipad and I used other programs. Number one used app right now and I hope to keep it that way.

When you're copying from a synth app make sure that its using the General Pasteboard and not the Sonoma one.

    Audiobus will be $10

It helps if I read the stuff around here! I had no idea you could open an empty sampler keys preset and control an IOS synth in the background. I finally see what the statement of IOS already has a ton of great soft synths. I still think a really good built in VA synth as an instrument would just make this over the top cool. The ability to have the pads do timed hits like next 32nd, 16th, 8th, bar, measure or immediate trigger like ableton's clip abilities would be super cool though.

There is nothing like Beatmaker 2 available that does MPC style music making around. After using Nanostudio for the first few songs , then finally getting into BM 2, I realize there is no substitute for BM 2 and it really excels at this live thing over any other app. Particularly if you plan on attaching a controller like padKontrol or Akai pads.

I'm still waiting for the ability to relocate the playhead from inside the piano/drum sequencer!!!!
