Questions before I purchase this

edited March 2013 in Support
I recently purchased Cubasis but it is lacking some Midi Features and I am considering purchasing this as an alternative but there are some things I need to know before I do and have not been able to find answers for through hours of searching even looking at the manual so bare with me if some of the questions are very basic.

1. BM2 says it has a multitrack sequencer. Is there a track limit? I need at least 32 tracks

2. Is there an audio track limit? If so how many audio tracks can we lay down per project combined with midi tracks

3. Is there a tempo track for Midi?

4. Can you do step Midi recording ?

5. From what I understand BM2 supports all Control Change messages but Does NOT support Program Change messages is that true?

6. Will SysEx ever be implemented into an update? I can never fully replace my sequencer from the 1990's until somebody does and whoever that is will be the winner.

Please help Thank you <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

    Curiosity?
    What do you use so many tracks for? Im just curious. I have never gotten the track count in bm2 past needing 9 audio tracks and about 8 instr.

    There's no limit I've noticed, it's pretty much only limited by the hardware you're using. 4th gen iPad for best results.

    I suggest checking out the comprehensive BM2 manual: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://intua.net/media/intua/downloads/BeatMaker2_UserManual.pdf">http://intua.net/media/intua/downloads/ ... Manual.pdf</a><!-- m -->

    Well I don't need that many audio tracks and I have only a few songs that require all 32 midi tracks. But in order to abandon my old Kawai Q-80 sequencer unit I need to transfer all of my songs. I have songs set up with SysEx, program change and control changes on separate tracks for parallel channels. I also have multiple external effects processors for different units that require program changes. I did read the manual and all it says is "multi-track sequencer" I was unable to find the track limit. Usually if it is unlimited they will boast about it, which they did not.

    BM2 is a must have. No question. Even if i was limited to 10 tracks

    So is it limited to 16 Midi Tracks (not channels) ? Still the Midi is no good to me without Program Changes and System Exclusive.

    Still no word from BM2 if SysEx and Program Changes will be added in a future update. Cubasis was kind enough to acknowledge that it is on there to do list however I don't expect it on their next update. There will be an extended marriage between me and whoever implements these features into a tablet format first. I don't see why the tablet has to just be a temporary on the go format for musicians. With the Alesis IO Dock I would have no problem avoiding a laptop or PC all together for my entire setup. In fact that is the way that I prefer it. It has been an interesting experience over the last 25 years watching the internet form and boom the economy only to eventually cause it's collapse.

    My current projects have over thirty tracks with over 100 instruments and samples. Was running fine until 2.4.4 came out and screwed up the latency. Now none of these projects work without massive distortion. Once they fix that you'll be able to support large tracks and instruments again but not with the new version...

    BM 2.4.2 - can handle surprisingly massive amounts of tracks and samples on an iPad2
    BM 2.4.4 - can handle surprisingly few tracks and samples

    If you can get hold of 2.4.2 or hold on for 2.4.5 then you'll be in good shape.

    30 tracks a 100 instruments. wtf?
    I think thats to much for any ISO devise right now. Seems like you would be better off on a desktop DAW

    BM2 was handling this nicely on an iPad 2 on 2.4.2. I wince every time I added anything beyond twenty tracks but it kept up fine, even with some heavy duty samples.

    As for 2.4.4, well this is clearly a step backwards. Unfortunately, I'll be off to Steinberg if Intua don't change the latency settings back in the next patch release. Its been a great product for the last few years. I just hope they don't over engineer it.
