Questions about iTunes file sharing

edited April 2013 in Support
So, I did a backup, (roughly 1.4 gb-- via Dropbox... Over the course of several days <!-- s:ugeek: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_ugeek.gif" alt=":ugeek:" title="Uber Geek" /><!-- s:ugeek: --> ), and tried the iTunes file sharing.
When I attempt to transfer the files according to the guidelines, I get nothing. Is it set up to only move files, not folders? I've already got everything neatly organized into folders,(samples, projects, presets etc), so that would be a bummer if true.

Right now it seems to be importing all of the audio track files that are hanging out in "my content", but no folders. In iTunes, the files disappear as BM2 imports them, and apparently they are going into the "user" folder, but since I've tried it several times, it looks like it keeps adding the same files as the size of the user folder increases a few hundred megabytes each time I do it. Oh, and I can't see any of the files in Bm2 either....

I've tried FTP, funbox, iTunes file sharing, and Dropbox, and none of these is reliable beyond small amounts of data at once. Any thoughts Intua?

update:
Maybe going forward, Dropbox can be used for small backups,(even though it doesn't like certain file names, and if you leave a space at the end of the file "drums2 .bmk2" it won't even transfer it), and iTunes file sharing can be tweaked to allow easy bulk transfer of all user data.

PS: last night during a Dropbox transfer, I got the following error:
"The operation couldn't be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1001.)

  • Hello dubhausdisco!

Well, iTunes does not let you drop directories directly, only single files works.
You can however create a ZIP file containing files and directories and drop it via iTunes.
BeatMaker 2 will unzip it automatically, preserving your directories.

    Hope this helps!
    Mathieu.

I've found the latest version of Filezilla seems reasonably stable with large amounts of files and directories together. I had to rebuild about 2.5GB today. I had to re do one or two directories but 90% of them went straight through okay in one big batch even if they were a little slow. At least its quicker than loading up to Dropbox and back down again. Not tried iTunes though yet.

I'm having a problem similar to that of the OP.

I never created a specific folder for WAV files I import from a playlist in iTunes. I can see these files in my QuickLoad list under My Content, but they do not appear in the File Browser. Where are they located? I'd like to delete some of the ones that have been superseded by more recent versions, but I can't seem to get at them from the File Browser. In fact, even if I import to a dedicated folder that I create (which I can see in the File Browser), when I access said folder all I see is "Empty folder". And yet the files are there under QuickLoad, and play back perfectly.

I'd update your database. I'm not sure if such things are intentional but I've had to rebuild folders before and the files have shown up okay after displaying an 'empty folder' initially.

Tried updating the database but that didn't help (good suggestion, though). Actually, after reading through a number of other posts on the forum, I decided to try simply managing the files via FTP, which turns out to work perfectly. So I think at this point my solution is to abandon the iTunes playlist import and just go with FTP. Anyway, I'm good now.
