Groove Question

edited February 2013 in Support
My Question is about Beatmaker 2 and groove. I feel as though my groove sounds to rbotic and perfect when druming.

What I am trying to go for is a more human feeling greoove but somthing smoth like J dilla would do.

How can I get a human feeling groove using beatmaker 2? Do I use swing or ADSR envelopes? If you say swing what advice do you have?

I also read about moving the drum a 32 or 64th up and that would do it. Do any of you reccomend that? or would that throw the song off.

Yes, definitely experiment with the swing settings. There's no right or wrong amount of swing, it all depends on what you think sounds good.

Alternatively, you could raise the quantization to something higher, like 32 or 64, then play and record your beat live. Higher quantization settings will preserve the swing in your live playing.

Alright I will try out your advice. Thanks alot!

Another question I have about swing is should I swing all my instruments to the same percentage or should the percentage vary?

This is where you have to experiment on your own. You're asking all the right questions, now it's time to just do it.
For dilla just turn quantize off altogether.
    Good luck!

LOL alright thanks a lot. I will try it out. I never knew that turning off quantization all together could be used lol. Dilla was genius!
