Is auria worth the money?

edited March 2013 in General
I understand it has audio bus support.

But almost 50 dollars is kid of a bit much.

I'm guessing you don't understand what it does, to have to ask that question. IMHO it's amazing they can do so much so well for so little $$$. 48 tracks, 8 subs, complex channel inserts everywhere, VST support, 24 concurrent record tracks, USB Class 2 compliance both ways (yes, it drives all 6 outputs from the Focusrite 18i6), sufficiently real time to use for live performance on an iPad 3. And Audiobus adds virtual Apps on the same iPad to the input list alongside the external inputs.

Lol alright. I will look into it then. but VST support. Does it do all of this from a fresh purchase or do I have to purchase additional plugins.

Cause I have heard that their are many plugins you can buy from within the app as well.

Also how is transfering files from BM2 to auria? can audio bus make this process easier?

Dee, buy the 25.00 version...upgrade it later if you need the extra tracks

You can still buy the plugs and etc...you can just pay the other 25 if you decide hey i need more tracks...
It has bounce and freeze though so i doubt you will

You have a few choices for moving BM2 audio into Auria:

1: play BM2 into Auria via Audiobus. Only the stereo Main can be transferred this way, and BM2 and Auria do not sync to each other. Auria has no MIDI (yet) and BM2 has known issues with syncing in general. But it works, and you can split and delete the blank bit off the beginning of the Auria side later. Just start Auria recording first, then hit Play on BM2. You can do both actions with BM2 front, since Auria puts transport controls into its Audiobus control strip. Not sure you should risk switching between the apps while recording is going on. Actual audio out chops a bit doing that, but not clear if that is just a rendering to the speaker issue or is in the actual record stream.

2: Audio Copy/Paste: A bit tricky. First you have to export the part you want to a file inside BM2, using the Export button on the track view. You can choose as a starting point either the entire song or just the portion inside the loop markers, but from there you can move the endpoints a measure at a time with the + and - buttons. Then from the home dialog choose the sharing icon and from there choose "copy to iOS", which will take you to a file select dialog. Select the file you just created. Then switch to Auria. BM2 does not properly title its pasteboard so your audio shows up as "General Pasteboard - Unknown". But that is the one you want. You should probably go back to BM2, still on its Pasteboard dialog, and hit Clear to free up the paste buffer after use.

3: there is no 3. As far as I can tell you cannot extract the audio from a specific track directly. Probably the best you can do here is to mute all the other tracks. Maybe solo the one you want will work too, but as that is usually a monitor not a mix function it probably won't work. Options 1 and 2 both transfer the full mix.

Good luck. Let us know how you get on.

    Thank you McGee and dwarman.

I will look into it and try it for myself. I also will get the 25 dollar version which I didn't know existed. I truly appreciate all of this advice.

    Great to hear. <!-- s8-) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cool.gif" alt="8-)" title="Cool" /><!-- s8-) -->

What about the additional plugins? Are they necessary to purchase? Does vst support by it come with it right out the app or is that something else that has to be purchased.

These are the last questions I have before purchasing the app.

You have to by the VST's as in-app purchases, but Auria comes with a starter set that is actually pretty good in its own right. Get to know them before you go buying anything. Auria VST's are not quite the same technology as desktop VST's so don't try copying your main system ones over.
