  I find if a person wears headphones (regular) not the ones with a mic...the internal mic in a quiet situation and proper distancing can yield very usable results... I use it all the time to sketch song ideas...if you fold a towel and put it under the iPhone/ipad it will stop some of the reflections of the surface as well.
