Set playback curser only - NOT range

What's driving me nuts sometimes is: I have a playback range, that is looped. When I just want to start it 4 bars earlier i'd like to set the playback curser on that position.
What happens in 99% of cases is, that the complete range is set to this bar.

I have tested and tested (touch upper part, lower part, within the bar, close to the end of bar...), but cannot find the secret behind it. Can anybody explain the rule behind it?

    Actually now I was a little more observing, this problem exists only in one song of mine. Very strange. I have no idea, what makes this song special or different, but it means this is not a basic problem....
