Intua partner with 3rd party fx devs?

Would be amazing if specialist 3rd party fx were available to buy from inside BM3 without having to use them as plugins (linking apps seems to have improved since I last used ipad but still pretty clunky).

Seems like it could be win/win for intua and other devs if they teamed up and licensed a few fx apps to intua in a way where you could buy them as an in-app purchase from inside BM3 and they were added to your list of BM3 available fx.

Would mean more sales for those 3rd party devs and also take BM3 to next level having even better fx and super easy fx modulation workflow on those 3rd party apps etc.

Maybe it's not a feasible suggestion in terms of the extra coding work putting more strain on the intua dev team. I could see dealing with bugs and working out whether they were intua or 3rd party dev's problem being a potential headache. But for me that kind of development where its possible to buy 3rd party fx as in app purchases, that totally integrate in to the app, would be well worth dropping some $$..

Saying all this, the BM3 fx are way better than BM2. Nice job :)

  • Audio Unit plugins are your friends. No more app linking, multitasking and tedious screenswitching required.

  • Sounds good, I need to check some out :) only fx app I have atm is Tonestack, which is killer, tons of variety and decent quality. But doesn't seem to support Audio Unit.. Maybe they'll add it..

Can you have multiple instance with Audio Unit plugins?

That's one of the unique charms of AU plugins!

  • Not sure i will be using many AUv3 effects in BM3, the native effects column is just a much much quicker workflow than using an external effect.
So from my side licensed algos as IAPs in native effects would be great.
  • More I think about intua collaboration with a 3rd party dev/s for a 'pro' fx IAP bundle the more it seems to make sense. It's just a much quicker/more flexible option to have this kind of thing within the built-in native fx column. Especially when the option of save/load FX chains arrives..

It's by no means a dealbreaker. The FX are already pretty good. And the plugins option is there.

But I'd pay like £50+ for a killer IAP fx upgrade bundle. Something like the FX suite on an OG Roland Sp404 .. If they could do this it would be ridiculously powerful/fast/self-contained...

Some devs that would be awesome to have onboard (admitted, dunno how feasible any of this is? !?) -
    Klanghelm
    U-he
    D16
    Softube
    Fabfilter
    Sly-fi

And among the FX a few heavy cpu hitters would be good - 3 Killer reverbs (standard, ambient, spring), A deep delay with tons of character (look at Tonal Recall pedal), A killer distortion (something like Fabfilter Saturn, Klanghelm SDRR etc). The option for top quality fx would be killer. Can always resample/freeze tracks/disable fx if cpu starts to buckle..

Not something I'd expect to happen any time soon but seems like the ideal fx route for long term..
  • There are enough good au fxs that i dont really see value in 3rd party fxs made for a single app. Auria was able to pull it off because they made this befor au and had the amazing fabfilter plugins.
  • @Tomes
Companies collaborate with devs for fx all the time. Softube springs to mind, they work with a bunch of daw makers and other plugin devs. And cytomic compressor in Ableton.. Even tho a million great VSTs are out there already ;) It would just be a much better workflow to have some pro fx inside the native list too, other than having to use plugins the way that Apple has things. I can see your side of it, possibly true from a business angle, but I'm just saying it would be better for the user in terms of workflow/integration ;)
  • Yea and i think this would work for desktop better, and worked for auria before we had audio units on ios. But personally i dont see it offering so much that it would be worth doing. There are already pro grade au plugins and using them isnt much more hassle than using native plugins. So unless there are many people really demanding this sort of feature(which i dont think there are), why would it make more sense to spend time and money on this feature over something like ableton push 2 integration? Which would really offer something huge and many people would love it, and might even buy an ipad(and bm3 ofc) just because of the feature

@tomes all I know is that I find using the built-in fx on BM3 faster/more convenient as a workflow than using plugins, so the more the merrier ;) for a start there's a dedicated fx button in the UI. Plugins are kind of buried. And in terms of modulation (soon to be added to the onboard fx), stability, fx chains etc.. Surely those aspects would all benefit from fx that don't really on Apple/random devs to run smoothly/be possible? Each to their own tho, just my take on it :)
  • Yep. It would be a nice addition, and im not the right person to judge whether it would be worth it to pull off, since i dont know how many requests are for different features. But i doubt it would be worth it, at least at this point.

If we went down this road then I'd love to see 'mini' versions of the AUFX series, as well as recreations of all the nodes in AUM. I'd pay for that!! (I'm constantly reaching for an AUM node that isn't there.. keep it in the (iOS) family!!

If nothing comes of this and Intua keep it in house, then let my lasting comment be this:

Every possible node in AUM (maybe not all pass filter..) is essential. I specifically missed Stereo to Mono, most most recently. I also loooove AUM's saturation..

Looking there for a well defined list of 'the essentials' is fail safe. It's thankfully mostly there already in BM3, however! Just a bit of fine tuning and a few missing utilities.

Don't know if it's ok to "promote" other software here. But it's a Synth - so it's more of an addition rather than competition.

I wasn't even aware that this developer was working on something new - but when I opened Galileo Organ it welcomed me with a popup information about this new synth.

So I thought well maybe there are youtube videos on it. And holy cow - I liked what I heard.
That was the shortest time span it ever took me to make a decision to buy an app. (second to BM3 of course ;))

And it appears as an AUv3 <3 Synth - and it's also a BEAST.

KASPAR from Yonac. check it out. highly recommended.

p.s. even though it's a sonic beast - it only shows 12-15% CPU usage in standalone on my iPad Pro 12.9
