Feature Request: BM3 Synth

edited November 2017 in Feature Requests
Nanostudio users despite owning an obsolete app are still acting very smug about NS over BeatMaker. The reason? The synth. @mathieugarcia dont you think we put this old rivalry to rest by developing a better synth than theirs. It would be worth more than any future sample pack and it might solve the midi/AU complaints BM gets on the Audiobus forums.

*this was almost entirely sarcasm but the feature request holds

I'd say it already is a pretty powerful sample based synth with filters, effects and extensive modulation capabilities.

It could use a few 'sample/waveform generators' for creating complex wave-forms as starting points.
(AUv3's cover this more than well already but still).

Maybe an added 'granuliser' would do and options to do bit & rate reduction before pitch-interpolation using various interpolation algorithms? (These would change the sound of the sample playback in quite drastic ways).

Another would be to do 'sample math' between layers/samples (add, subtract, multiply etc) for 'wave-shaping/ring-modulation type effects. (Korg O1/W used a variant of this by using short single-cycle waves to modify the longer samples).

So the short answer is no, instead keep on improving the sampling engine and sample editing options :)

Looking forward to Nano studio 2 right now, hoping they dont make all the mistakes others have made, starting to think IOS users specifically want square wheels.

Nanostudio 1 did so many things right, and was my 'go to' iOS composition tool for 3 years solid (at least until AUv3 matured). It's still to be beaten regarding the midi editing handles and multi-lane midi parts, imho.

I would love BM3 to have the psp channel strip effects from Auria pro, but I'm more than happy to pick 'n mix the premium synths I want from the lovely variety of AUv3s from specialist developers such as BramBos etc.

I'd rather buy the synths that suit me, and build my own collection. For me, the DAW's primary job is host and sequencer.
  • A built in synth would be a complete waste, lets be clear here, features are being added now completely broken, that cut n padte never got fixed after being implemented to do what ? Nobody has found a use for it yet, but it put copy n paste on the new feature list.
Do you really want a synth designed like that ?

On day one of release i pointed out the issus with using the sampler as a synth and was robustly told to STFU and use an AUv3.....soooo there ya go.
If theyre isnt interest in the simple idea of multiple layers through a single modulatable filter or amp (Needed for the most basic multi osc synth) then anything more extreme is unlikely too.

The rumoured 'modulations' update (fx, layer fx, macros, sample start/end/loop points etc) will hopefully open things up for better sound design with the internal BM3 tools. Tbh I struggle using BM3 seriously as it is atm. It's really close to being amazing but something about it (mostly the sequencing/piano roll/automation/external cc mapping and naming etc) just feels unfinished/clunky/awkward and has put me off doing any serious work in it. Always hit walls/bugs/frustrations. Planning to check out auria if there's a black Friday sale. Or just abandon the idea of using ios for anything other than sound design/sampling etc.

Yeah I'd rather they focussed on this stuff.

Once that's all handled, which I assume will be a while, I'd probably rather see video tracks vs a synth.

Yes, I love granulisers! Wonderfull tools to shape new sounds...

I miss that one too! Blending options for layers, photoshop style

  • @StudioES good idea, more stock waveform and presets needed.
