elemental - Orc Music: March and Bacchanale (percussion)

This is the first piece that I have written using BeatMaker 1.3, and I used it as a chance to try out a lot of the new features (while hopefully not getting too carried away). The piece uses a 5/4 time signature, 2- and 4-bar patterns, 32nd-note resolution, the pitch and pan step editors, and last but not least, sample recording from the iPhone's microphone. Most of the sounds come from Mimo Music's "Ambient" kit (which is also new to 1.3), with the exception of the snare and the sample from the mic.

I guess that between the monster-movie title and all the percussion, this song is a cousin of Jason7's "Demigods and Demons", but I like to think that it stands on its own.

Enjoy...

Always potentially contentious to make comparisons, so I hope you see it as a compliment: sections of this remind me of Massive Attack (who I love!).

Nice use of time signatures. Good stuff.

Thanks, I am glad you liked it. I don't really know Massive Attack's music but will take the complement at face value. Which songs does it remind you of?

Dude it rocks, the perc builds up in the end, you mix elemental styles, lots if ambiance. I can imagine a longer version that really exploits what you started here. I'm thinking the gluttonous 'party' scene from the movie "300", complete with the slow motion dancing sequences, something exotic of that nature -- I could see a flushed out version of "Ocr Music" under that. But then again, I don't know nothin about movies except to watch them, ha
