Kudos and feature requests
Greet app, well done!
I "tried" Beatmaker for a moment and lost one hour of worktime, thanks for that <!-- s;) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;) -->
No crashes during that time like on other apps.
In future updates i would like to be able to record my own samples by using the iPhone microphone (pads section).
Also would be nice to swipe from one pattern-arrange window to the next or previous one (sequenzer section).
Greetings from Germany

it would be interesting if BeatPack could convert midi files - but i guess that's a tall order

REQ:
I'd like to see choke groups added to the pads in a future update and well as different trigger modes such as a re-trigger (which is does now), gate (mute) and play though (pause play).
Thanks for this great app!
Best,
GaryS
It would be nice in the pads view to display the full filenames (use a second and third line, there seems to be enough space) and not truncate them with ...
I'm sure we'll see much more goodness to come but my first request would be a well-documented user manual. Looking forward to the Beatpack.
Couple of feature requests.
1 - Loops for sounds - (this would enable using tiny waveforms)
2 - ADSR Envelopes for sounds
3 - TimeStretch
4 - Filter for individual hits (as opposed to on a global effect)
5 - on top of velocity and swing in the step sequencer, pitch would be really handy - this would enable bassline programming and more!
Thanks a lot though - the best iPhone app by far!
also, the ability to preview sounds in a kit before loading it up
Best,
GaryS
#'s 1 and 5 on your list are implemented already.
Keep digging! You'll find them!

#1: Plenty or the assignable samples are longer, loop-style sounds..... certainly long enough to plow through one bar, and fold around to the beginning.
#5: Under PAD > EDIT > TUNING, you'll see the pitch slider, along w/ a scale adjustment and semi-tones.
Enjoy!
Very good point.

My request:
To be able to pull in and play different sounds from different kits or 'chop and choose' your own kit to enable a full range of different effects/hits throughout a song. I understand doing this would eat up a lot of memory but there must be a way...unless its already there and i simply haven't woken up yet.
This is going to be big, i can tell!
Nice work!!
and of course on that page is graphical edit - which does that in real time, while a sample is looping in the sequencer (!)
I do agree for the most part of the feature requests....
I'd like to also add and see.. quantizing/timing correct options... like 1/8...1/4...1/16...etc... for example...when I try to layer fast hi-hats..and when i have quantize on...it only conforms to 1 setting...
Also I noticed...maybe its an iphone interface issue..but I get alot of double sounds when tapping the pads once...I also get missed taps when tapping the pads fast...
but as i play more and more with it...i love it!!..great app!!!

I agree to Nobby - being able to adjust pitch FROM THE SEQUENCER would be superawesome!
Other than that - awesome app, totally blown away, it's by far the best app for the iPhone! If I wouldn't own one yet I would buy it just for that app!
Thanks!

I can't see how to turn loops on and off though? Its not possible to set up proper looping of sounds (select a small section of the sound and set it to loop) with ADSR envelopes to control how the sound works over time.
Also yes Tuning exists in PADS but not in STEP Sequencer mode. In other words PITCH IS ALWAYS FIXED, but with pitch in the sequencer you could make melodies from individual hits!! Combine this with looped SAW Waves, or SINE WAVEs and you've got a mini synth!
there's not enough tracks in the sequencer to get a good rhythm section going, AND muck around with riffs - which i totally understand, i'm guessing we're getting close to the hardware limitations with this - but - and i've yet to try this - can you put a few rhythms together, some alternates & breakdowns - export these as audio files then re-import these loops onto your pad section, leaving a heap of pads free for setting up the bass lines, and on and on - almost like overdubs the old fashioned way
i'm trying it right now.....
So you could do the same thing for a melody - You would 'just' have to prepare a Kit where you manually tune the same sample to 16 different notes, sequence the melody and then overdub that.
A little tedious but would work.

Wait... how are you exporting? Playing back w/ line out? Or is the BeatPack available?
Tell Tell!!!

Can anyone recommend a few sites for wav samples and loops?
Thanks in advance

Remix material, some good stuff in the past (loops from Lenny Kravitz, Madonna, B-52s as part of a remix contest. Those loops are not available anymore but the loops for the current contests are available.)

as the name says...
All that said, where I would like to see this app go is in a direction similar to Ableton Live's Drum Rack. Essentially, it is a drum machine with a huge number of slots. Each slot can hold anything from a sample up to an entire effect chain. This allows for a huge amount of configurability. For example, if you want varying degrees of bitcrushing for certain sounds, you apply it only to them. The output of the drum rack can then be put through its own "master" effect chain which becomes the final output of the instrument. If has enough slots that you can use it to play multisampled instruments and the like.
Yes, I realize that the hardware we're talking about has limitations. The overwhelming majority of what I talk about above could be done by limiting the number of slots and "freezing" the drum kit into a new set of temporary samples. Keep the original samples and the settings for the kit in flash, then feed the new samples to a simple drum machine. A little time spent preparing the drum kit before allowing play would probably let that work.
Anyway, time for me to sleep. I may elaborate on this and other feature requests later.
I'd love a step sequencer similar to the 808 and TB303 - with sound banks to match! That way I wouldn't have to trust my lousy timing!
