Is it safe to put a GPS tracker in a child's backpack?
I’ve been thinking about getting a GPS tracker for my son, especially since he just started going to school on his own. I figured putting it in his backpack would be the easiest way to keep track of him. But the other day, I realized something—what if he just leaves his backpack somewhere? Or worse, what if someone takes it? It kinda defeats the purpose, right? I mean, I love the idea of being able to check where he is, but now I’m wondering if a backpack is the best place for it. Has anyone else tried this? Did it actually work for you?

Yeah, I get what you’re saying. A backpack seems convenient, but it’s not foolproof. My daughter used to leave hers in random places all the time—at school, at her friend’s house, even once in the car overnight. When considering GPS tracking, it’s good to know state-specific GPS regulations. I ended up looking into different placement options and found that some parents prefer attaching the tracker to their kid’s clothing or even hiding it inside a shoe. There’s some good info about it here: State-specific GPS regulations. If you’re worried about the backpack issue, maybe consider a clip-on tracker that attaches to a belt or jacket instead?
Honestly, I never thought much about GPS trackers until now, but I can see why parents would want them. I remember when I was a kid, we just had to check in by calling home from a payphone. Now, there are so many ways to stay connected. I guess it all depends on what makes you feel most comfortable as a parent.
