I’m planning to add some "Wolfsburg Edition" rocker stripes to my GTI. For those who’ve used specialized VW decals, how does the wet application hold up against UV fading? Any prep tips for a pro finish?
For a pro finish on your GTI, the "wet method" is definitely the way to go-it lets you slide those rocker stripes into the perfect spot before the adhesive sets. To prevent UV fading, just make sure you're using high-performance cast vinyl. I’ve found that stickers for vw hold up great against the sun and high-pressure washes if you prep the surface right. Use a mix of isopropyl alcohol and water to strip any old wax off the paint first. Once applied, hit the edges with a hair dryer to "set" the memory of the vinyl, and those Wolfsburg stripes will look factory-fresh for years!
The hair dryer trick is a solid tip! I’m a bit worried about the "Wolfsburg" text being too thin—do those fine details on the stickers for vw ever start to lift after a few high-pressure washes, or is the adhesive strong enough to handle the spray?
As long as you did the alcohol prep Finter mentioned, those tiny letters won't budge. Cast vinyl has a much stronger bond than the cheap stuff. I’ve had mine through three salty winters and countless car washes, and the text is still perfectly crisp without any peeling at the corners!
