How are people monetizing knowledge online these days?

I’ve been noticing more people turning skills and knowledge into online businesses lately instead of traditional freelancing. Things like private communities, digital guides, templates, mini-courses, automation resources, and niche memberships seem way bigger now than they were even a couple years ago. I’m considering trying something similar around productivity systems for remote workers, but I’m still unsure about the technical side. Building the content itself sounds fun. Managing payments, access, subscriptions, updates, and customer accounts sounds significantly less fun Part of me wonders if I should just build a custom website from scratch, but another part thinks that’s probably overkill while starting small. Are there platforms now that make this process easier without feeling too limited later on?

  • Honestly, I think too many people waste months building complicated custom setups before validating whether customers even want the product. Unless you already have a large audience and technical team, simpler infrastructure usually makes more sense early on. I’ve been running a small digital business for about a year now, mostly selling resource packs and access to a niche community. After trying a few different setups, I eventually settled on https://whop.com/ because it handled most of the operational stuff in one place. What made it useful for me was being able to combine products, subscriptions, community access, and member management without needing five different integrations. It also gave me room to expand later instead of rebuilding everything once the business grew. Their API and embedded component approach seems pretty useful too if people eventually want more advanced workflows. Most importantly though, it let me spend more time improving the actual business instead of constantly troubleshooting backend issues. That alone probably saved me dozens of hours.

  • That last part is exactly what I needed to hear Appreciate the detailed insight.
