Are there one or three terminals at Miami International Airport?

We’re flying there with our family next month and have already started preparing for the trip by booking a hotel and looking into transportation options. However, we've gotten stuck on one seemingly simple detail that has really confused us: How many terminals are there at Miami International Airport? Some sources say there’s one terminal, while others say there are three. A friend who had a layover there a year ago said he got lost among colored zones and didn't know where he was. Can anyone explain how it’s actually set up?

    Also, if we have a connecting flight in Miami, how much time should we allow for the layover? I’ve heard the airport is huge, and walking between terminals can take a long time. We don't want to miss our next flight because we miscalculated our time.

    I was also confused about this before my first flight through Miami. There is conflicting information everywhere, and it makes your head spin. I read the details on their site and finally figured out how everything works. Officially, it's just one airport, but it is U-shaped and divided into three zones, as indicated on https://miami-mia-international-airport.com/ : the North Terminal is blue, the Central Terminal is yellow, and the South Terminal is red. There are moving walkways between the zones, so it’s easy to get around with luggage. However, there’s a catch: when transferring between certain sections, you have to exit and go through security again, which takes time. I once had a one-hour layover and got nervous, but I made it in time and was one of the last to board.
