Some competition on the way

edited February 2011 in General
I found this video today while surfing for Beatmaker vids. <a class="postlink" href=" m --> The app is called "fingerbeat" and it looks to be headed down the right direction for iphone beatmaking. Instead of trying to make the iphone an MPC clone they have designed things with a touch screen specifically in mind. I think I will wait till their version 2 comes out before I take the dive.

Intua, where's your updates/new features? Are you sleepin over there? Can you give us a little hint at what to expect next?

It was only a matter of time until Beatmaker saw some serious competition. The app looks really nice but it is clearly lacking some of the features Beatmaker has as a mature product. I will probably pick it up when released to compare the two. More competition is a good thing in my opinion as it should push Intua a bit harder to stay in front.

It would be nice if they kept us a little more up-to-date with progress, even if they don't want to give away what they are doing - how about a blog or monthly update? Don't forget though they have already done much of the hard work that Fingerbeat still has to achieve. Looking at the forum, Intua aren't lacking suggestions for future updates!!!

I checked out fingerbeat and it loox kinda cool, I wonder what the price will be?..I love the intua interface its nice and clean and not too colorful. I do agree on Intua not giving much info regarding updates and stuff like that which makes me think they are keeping the same format the same but adding major functions like piano roll. I love the app and would be satisfied just with the piano roll for now but I am also going crazy checking everyday hoping I see an update. peace

Hi guys,

We are far from sleeping we are working very hard on BeatMaker 2 and another music-related product.
We've been listening to all the suggestions you have made on this forum and by email, and we're pretty confident BeatMaker 2 will surprise you, as we are aiming really higher.
Before you ask, no ETA yet, but we'll give more info as they come.

Also, version 1.3.4 will be released soon, with a couple of new kits.

Cheers!
Intua Team.

It is not about competition, it is about keeping your creativity and ingenuality healthy and alive...I've seen kids do wonders with just one simple recording device....how much more can we get spoiled? Cheers to intua!!

I bought it and fudged the installer to allow it to install on my iPod Touch 1G with macally ivoice pro 3 mic. It's a much more basic app but at least it lets me record my own sounds into the pads! No FX, automation etc and really more of a fun app than a serious tool I think. Of course it is also fairly inexpensive. Worth picking up for fun, but definitely not a competitor to BM in terms of more serious composition. What I really like though is its pitch editing - very simple to use and easier than BM's I think.

I bought this to give it a try, £2.39 I think. Firstly, as I described it in the App Store it is a Beatmaker for Dummies. Much more simple and a bit too limiting for me. Only 6 patterns and 8 pads. No way of uploading new sounds, you have to record directly on the phone. On the plus side I really like the interface. It runs nicely on a normal 3G and there are some good sounds in the sets. Especially liking the 8 bit one. It will take some time until it reaches Beatmaker for capability and, by then, Beatmaker will have moved on again.

Overall, worth a look for some quick beats especially if you find Beatmaker a bit too much. If not, don't bother as you will be left wanting more.

FingerBeat is cool, it will in no way replace BeatMaker but it'is cool anyway!!!

I can use it to make melodies and beats then record them with my computer then put them into Beat Maker to add more.

Beat Maker will be 1000x better when they have atleast 1 more group of 16 pads and mute groups and add a type of piano roll or keyboard.

Make it easy to play pitches without having to do it over all pads 1 at a time or the editor in the sequencer.
I like to play with the pitches while recording instead of editing notes afterwards.
Each pad should have a window with a keyboard up and down the octives, keys and simitones and we'll be able to make a melody with one pad!!!

Finger Beat is an easy music maker and for $3.99 it was easy to pick up and try out.

I like it but I Love Beat Maker!!!!
I can't wait for BeatMaker 2!

we are working very hard on BeatMaker 2

Hi Intua, will 2.0 be a free upgrade for existing users?
• edited 12:35PM
Hello,

We are really hoping we can work out a paid update system for 2.0, so 1.x customers
have a discount price while updating. However, for new customers, the price should remain
the same : $19.99.

We hope this will be clarified really soon, as it depends on Apple.

Oh wow, that was fast, thank you very much!

All the best and good luck with Beatmaker 2.

Please give us enough forewarning so we know to set aside some dough for the update.
If it's gonna be a paid update I hope you guys cram as much of the good suggestions in as possible.
I only bought my iPod Touch for BeatMaker!!!
I have other apps but BeatMaker is my main app!

Apparently, "Apple" decided that it would be best if there was no discount.

Apple decided.... and me, i bought the first and i won't buy this version at the same price of a new customer.

$20 bucks is too much for an app that does what a $200+ dollars piece of software, or $2000 piece of hardware. Get over it man, I would pay $100 for this app...it would be worth it.
• edited 12:35PM
Jesus, some of you people are insufferable. BM2 is a brand new app, not some simple update from BM1. If you don't want to spend $20 for it, then don't, and don't register an account on this forum just to get all pissy pants over it.
• edited 12:35PM
Also how do you expect them to make the app if they aren't being paid. You are going to miss out on a revolutionary app over 10 beans lol.

Yea that's got me thinking of buying NanoStudio instead. But I would love to see a side by side comparison of features.
• edited 12:35PM
There's no matter about paying an app. But it's hypocritical to say apple choose how much customers must pay.
If i've never suscribe, it's just because I read before writing, and all i need was written.

BeatMaker 2 is surely a great update.

There's other software with major update, and they do discount update. Sequencer, Plugins... ios or no.

Cheers

I have bought it too.
• edited 12:35PM
Beatmaker 2 is a completely new app. It's not even fair to call it an upgrade. I'd say it's more justifiable for a fully-paid upgrade than any other software I've owned. I bought Beatmaker 1 for $20, and am more than glad I spent $20 on this.

Suck it up and buy it. The original Beatmaker was released more than two and a half years ago. If you can't afford to buy a $20 piece of (phenomenal) software every few years, then something's wrong here.
• edited 12:35PM
Yea 20$ is nothing considering the capabilities this software has to offer.

Finger beats looks cool, but the gadget factor doesn't work for me.

I prefer to use tried and tested industry standards rather than test innovative concepts. Once those concepts have proved their worth, i might switch

BM 2 is pretty hot stuff, and I just hope to do it justice by creating some phat beats!

Yes but they cost 300 bucks and the update is 175. Seriously if you are going to miss out on BM2 over 10 bucks you are not that bright. Really, like wait an extra week and save your allowance or something.

Ok sorry, low blow there. I understand it's a matter of principle, but don't be so stubborn. You should want to donate extra to Intua for giving us this app.

I see Intua are giving away free promo codes for BM2. Pity they couldn't honour their previous pledge to their loyal customers.

I would argue those customers are not loyal if they don't want to support the company and pay a fair price for their products.
• edited 12:35PM
supporting.... are we sponsoring a compagny? Is there loyality in everything you buy? For me, there's only priority.
I respect Intua's work, and a free update could not be possible, it's shure, but this is not the only app on the store.
See you on the third version (with audio preview when loading samples and an ipad optimized version).

Really. We've waited months and months for the next version on the understanding that our loyalty would be rewarded by having a free upgrade.

You Intua apologist can bleat on as much as you want but they promised us a free upgrade and then reneged on the deal without so much as a apology or explanation. That is very poor customer service and I'm apauled that they treat their customers this way.
