Suggestion Box For Future Updates.

edited May 2011 in General
Thread guidelines:
List concise, helpful suggestions and specific enhancements for future development

-Exportable kits to either EXS24, or Kontakt so the exported midi file will automatically work with the exported exs24 or kontakt kit in a DAW.
-Solo Function for individual pads or better yet, a split bounce option (separate wav files would be bounced for each pad played in the sequence for easy import into a DAW).
-longer patterns
-more subdivision options for quantizing
-more time signature options
-Less latency on input if at all possible
-Change velocity option in pad mode so the velocity of individual pads can be changed during the recording of a pattern.

    -Attack, Sustain, Decay, Release options for the pads on the kit
    -one shot on/off option
  • First of all I would like to say how fantastic this is. This product is definitely the beginning of or going to part of an instrument movement as far as Sample equipment is concerned. Very simple set up that allows quick maneuvering between screens while doing multiple functions such as inserting new samples to pads while the beat is still playing or rearranging and adding effects to patterns while the track continues to play. The preset sounds give new users a great way to experiment with others kits and create there own if they've purchased the product not knowing much about it and what all it comes equipped with and how it works. BeatPack provides users the ability to put together their own kits from their own external sounds and 16 pads is by far more than enough for a miniature machine like this though I felt that limitation of only being able to use Wave files was extremely ineffective and disappointing being that most users who will be loading samples into kits through BeatPack would most likely have their samples and sounds in MP3 or Aiff (if on a Mac) format based on how they retrieved them or the auto format of the OS of the computer. Trying to recover these files or run them through a converter of some sort is frustrating and time consuming. Perhaps a built in automatic converter in BeatPack or allowing more file formats to be usable in an update could fix this if its a consistent problem with other users. Also an internal Filling system or a way to rearrange the files while using BeatMaker on the iPhone or iPod Touch would be beneficial. Something else that I felt was insanely discouraging was that you can't actually directly connect the iPhone/iPod Touch to your computer to load samples (from what I've found). Only being able to connect through a server restricts it's use in several ways if you do not have that kind of access off hand. One other small thing that irked me was that you can't get rid of or create your own Default Kit. Fully understanding that this is not a replacement for any type of MPC or EMU I feel that there are ways to make this product a very completive tool in the music world for more than just the average iPhone/iPod Touch users. I've seen people talk about adding some extreme features that alone would be of massive upgrade or are alone products that cost a lot. Simply, right now, I think some main utilizing features would be a Voice Overlap: Mono, Poly feature and a Mute Group and Mute Target feature. For me these would be optimal for the time being and in general i feel are necessary for any modern sampler. Trying to cut one sample several different ways and assigning it to pads takes up a lot of room if you're only able to use 16 Pads and arranging something like that takes an extreme amount of time and causes a lot of confusion (Ex: Sampling a Piano key then pitch shifting it to several Pads, say 13, 14, 15, and 16. If i wanted a key to cut at the point another key/sample begins without having to assign the key to another pad and cut out a different version of the it to fit the BPMs.). Also, A Pan feature would be excellent for people who make a lot of multilayered Instrumentals or busy beats. The ability to assign multiple sample to one pad directly through BeatMaker would be nice but not necessary. Finally, I would like to add that I think a Reverb effect and a Compressor might be more essential to use than maybe the Bit Crusher or the Delay altho having them was a decent change from what other smaller beat making programs typically have. Take Care.
    Peace!

  • - Linear mode. I'd love to be able to assign one whole track to each pad, and not worry about patterns per se.

    The more you guys go overboard with wishes for the next update the less will Intua team know what we as users really want.
    It makes no sense to ask for Cubase+Ableton+recycle in a single version update.

    First off, THANKS!!!!!!!!!!! I've been wishing for something like this for years!

    Now, Very Important...

    Fades in and out on sample start,end. Gets rid of that nasty click.
    A pitch track like the groove and vel ones would rock.
    Pitch shift without time change would also rock.
    Mute (choke) groups- (hat pad stops open hat sound, etc)
    Toggle pad for continuous play or to stop audio (i had one pad play for 20 bars before it finally shut up)
    The ability to zoom out of sequence view so I dont spend all my time tryin to get it to scroll.

    But even without all that

    I CAN MAKE BEATS ON THE TRAIN!!! <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt=":lol:" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: -->

    BRILLIANT
    Thanks Again

    1 track audio recorder so you could rap/sing your ideas on the fly with the built in microphone. That should be a realistic add to the update.
  • edited 12:32PM
    so i think it would be cool to preview sounds before loading them into the drum pads. If I wanna add sounds from other kits, I dont like having to add it to the pad before I know what sound I chose. This would cut down on time looking for and loading sounds,.
  • edited 12:32PM
    You can already do this. When you have got to the point where you can select sounds to load on the pad, tap on the bottom right on the image that looks like an audio wave form. This will preview the sound before you load it to the pad.

    Toggle pad for continuous play or to stop audio (i had one pad play for 20 bars before it finally shut up)

    That should be a "doable" thing fairly easily? It bugs the hell out of me too. I had pads set up to play harp sounds and when I had a few phrases together I slowed down the pitch by 70%, and of course lengthening the phrase considerably. It sounds cool and dreamy, but while I was experimenting with new pads beatmatching and messing with drum loops to play over it, I'd hit one of my harp phrases which would go oonnnnnnn forevvvvvveeeer and I have no way to stop it, nip it in the bud. I left the project cause I was losing the will to live trying to get an ambient track with long (16+ bar) phrases down. I LOVE beatmaker but not being able to stop the audio at will once a phrase starts looping is a pain (yes, I know one can mute but thats not the same! - I want to quit and try something else, see if 4 bars goes okay to lock it in and ditch it if its not working) - Cheers.

    First post, newb ... I searched for this but there was nothing since the most recent update, so here goes ...
    Mute (choke) groups- (hat pad stops open hat sound, etc)

    has this been added yet?? it seems this post was from before the most recent update, but I haven't found this function yet. Very important IMO ...

    everything known to man and some..has to be crammed inside Beatmaker..256 polyphony, 12GB sampler, 420.000 note sequencer, AT LEAST 16 pad banks and 500GB sound library online. It should include the best drums ever recorded. C'mon Intua..we paid 20 bucks for this basic software!

    I don't know if that sarcasm was directed at me or not. I definitely think that this app is worth the $20 that I paid for it and realize that this app is intended for more electronic types of music where realism isn't as much of an issue as it would be with the types of music that I tend to work with. I was merely wondering if this feature was added since I did a search and it this issue hasn't come up since the last update. If this feature is impossible due to the limitations of the iphone or the way the program is structured, then I'm sorry. Other than this one issue, I can say pretty confidently that I'm not very interested in any of the suggestions made so far in this thread. While typing this I was thinking that a possible workaround might be to sequence the volume of an open hi-hat to cut out when you trigger the next hi-hat note .... but I've only just started with the app and I don't know how doable something like this would be. Just thinking out loud really. Someone else also suggested earlier in the thread that you could adjust the length of an open hi-hat sample to match the length of a beat, but that seems like it would be a pain to do for each song (or even to do multiple times if you wanted one for 1/4 note open and 1/8 note and so on ...).

    Zack ... I think I see where your comin' from and I agree that BM should not be so crammed with features that it becomes too much for the iphone to handle, or even that it drives the price up. But try to keep in mind that this thread isn't even 2 pages long yet and you've chimed in twice to complain about peoples requests.

    If this thread was the only wish-list at this forum, I'd give you this, but try browsing the list a little. It seems that lots of people feels that immediate response to a major app upgrade (for free) is to moan about it and to ask for more features. I call this ungrateful behaviour, but go ahead..it's a free world.
  • edited 12:32PM
    so, your saying that as a new user I'm being ungrateful for an app that I just bought under the current version at the current price and wondering if a specific feature exists after I searched the forum and found no recent mention of it??

    So I guess this isn't the kind of forum where you can ask questions ....

    Did you even read my post?? Or did you just see that someone posted in one of the new feature threads and it pissed you off.

    No, I didn't read your post . I didn't want to be specific which post pissed me off, but it was more general feeling of constant forum moaning after every new update. I really don't know why you thought I was writing about you? Is it just because I posted after your post?

    No it hasn't been added. It might be in a couple of months though.

    M-m-m: to achieve what you want you have to use velocity to silence your sample.
    Say you hit closed hihat on 1 (1/8), 3, 7 and open it on 5. In order for the closed sample to stop also play the sample at 5 but set velocity to zero.
    Try that and let us know if it is what you wanted please.

    thanx for the response. That sounds like it should do the trick, and I'll post back once i get the opportunity to try that.

    Zack: alright then .... were cool. While I didn't really feel that you were writing about me specifically, I kind of felt like I was getting bitched at all the same just 'cuz I posted in this thread. Look at it this way: I walk into a room at a party. A few minutes go by, and then you walk in and shout "You're all a bunch of whiney losers". Are you addressing me specifically?? No, but it's implied since I'm in the room.

    GREAT PRODUCT! i just wish for two things,
    -actual variable speeds on pads, so as to speed up and slow down live to help blend separate songs together better,
    -also i would like to see a way to record what you do live, so then you can just hit record and it will record what you do and automaticallly put it into the sequencer, because if i do some crazy song live, then id like to be able to use it again the exact same way

    thanks

    3 must have features for the next update:

    1. Export each pad as it's own .wav file. This would make it incredibly easy to get the separate tracks into your PC or Mac based DAW <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

    2. An added bank of 16 pads. This would allow the user to put, i.e drum samples in one bank of pads and melodic samples on the other bank of pads, making a total of 32 pads. <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

    3. Mute groups. I think 4 would be plenty. <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

    Add these features and you guys will go down in history,....no joke. <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

    1. Additional mixer channels to allow more use of the effects.
    2. Parameter automation.

    Cool app, just bought it last week.

    I like the paradigm. Sure there's always stuff to be improved on, but my vote goes to optimizations wherever possible. BeatMaker runs a little laggy on my iPhone 3G even when it's the only app running after a reboot and all push is turned off, etc etc.

    Great tool! Really love it. as others have already suggested I have to say REVERB! the preset kits could be dryer then as well.
  • edited 12:32PM
    I have three feature requests.

    1. voice groups (hit one pad cut's off the other)
    2.layers per pads
    3.easy way to export pads for mixing song in DAW
  • edited 12:32PM
    one more!

    Patterns names!

    Wow, what a great app !
    Tested it on a friend's iPhone yesterday, definitely buying it (just waiting for my damn visa).

    It would be great if the volume could be automated per pad, like velocity/pan/pitch. For faking sidechain, stuttering etc. without restarting the sample.

    There's one feature I'd like to see come back from the older version:
    In the Tune section on the pads there was that horizontal slider for pitch, in addition to the semitones +/- and it went from x0.0 to x2.0. I loved that, and used it a lot for continuous pitch shfits on drone-y sounds. The closest I can come to that now, is by mapping semi-tones to the cross controller, but it's not the same, becasue it's not continuous. The "detune" is continuous, but it has a very small range.

    Could we get this slider back or could it be an option for the cross controller?

    Oh, another cool feature would be the possibility to sample from a song in the iPod library. A simple player which lets you choose a song from your library and have a record button that would record to a pad while holding it down (or toggle it). You then use the graph edit to clip it afterwards. Don't know if this is even possible..
    And ++ for:
    multiple wav exporting (each pad or pattern),
    multiple samplebanks (choose bank to use in each pattern),
    2+ busses with send-amount from each pad (delay/reverb, allthough I know reverb can be very cpu-intensive),
    master volume (with the abillity to automate?)

    yea, yea.. i know its an iPhone, but I get carried away here <!-- s:-) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":-)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:-) -->

    a good one good be the hability to import / export mp3... I know quality is not the same as WAV, but they are smaller files ^^

    also, if we could import a song or mp3 to play/record on top of it... or something like that, it would be nice I think. I guess I could try that insertint a whole song as if it was a sample, but probably it will be to heavy and won't work...

    ohh... another suggestion... it would be awesome if we could have more than just 1 kit per song. If we could add kits to a proyect and have more sounds/pads it would be great
