TX ragno . I would love to have better fx etc AFTER the basics are done correctly.

    1. internal recorder of streaming signals.
I was thinking how much it would instantly open beatmaker's creative possibilities if it included an internal recorder of anything streaming in your iphone.
    internet radio anyone??
I believe currently there are no recorders in the app store that can do this, not sure if its a limitation of the current sdk, but if it were possible to record anything ala total recorder and gather loads of samples internally in beatmaker! wow..

    2. New revamped fx with preset saving capabilities.
Dont get me wrong I do appreciate the fx section of beatmaker, huge update from the first version. But now I think it can be revisited.
    Some of my thoughts.
    New distortion unit.
the current overdrive is quite muddy, I can never get to use it, at least in my productions. I love distortion units, but this one lacks some character.
    The delay
would love to have the ability to change the delay time as a slider and to be able to include the parameter the X/Y pad..
    The reverb
is also quite muffly, would love to get more crispy highs out of it.
    BeatMasher!
a beat masher unit to randomize patterns would be crazy! Think traktors beatmasher..

    3. a X/Y pad that you can combine any parameter of any fx, say to combine delay time with bit depth? I believe this was possible in beatmaker 1 is it possible in beatmaker 2?

    Thanks for alllllll

Create a dedicated Virtual Midi device that contains all the items that you need to create a VM connection. With a few pages of knobs and sliders with editable labels and CC assignments so we can control 3rd party synths from within BM2. See my post in the BM2 support forum for details (posted in the wrong place by accident).

In case it hasn't been suggested yet. I'd like to recommend track grouping and collapse (folders) in the arrangement window and mixer.

    Hi,

just bought Beatmaker 2 for my iPad2 today... great app, although there were a couple of things I thought could be a bit more intuitive mainly to do with arrangment

    DRAG MODE
Whilst there are options to move a part, I think a "pointer" mode, that let you drag a part by clicking on it and dragging it would be useful...seemed odd that it didn't work like this as I am used to Cubase/FLStudio etc. (Double clicking could also enter the part edit mode).

I was thinking to fit the extra tool in the tool box, either navigate could be a toggle/cycle button, or holding it down brought up a list of tools vertically that you could slide your finger up onto.

Also since multi-touch is an option maybe some operations could make some use of an "ALT" key. eg holding on a part and dragging it moves it (when in "pointer" mode), but holding ALT down and dragging it resizes it etc. (Although the current resize tool is fine really)

    MUTE TOOL
If extra tools were added as suggested above, a MUTE tool would be handy. Basically selecting this and hitting any part with it mutes that part (rather than the whole track).

    TRACK SETTINGS
It would also be useful to be able to mute/solo a track without having to launch the track settings window. Maybe the track settings window could have an option to pull it out wider (like the left hand side of the iPad facebook app), to give access to more track settings. items. (Mute/Record/Solo etc). This would be for quickly trying out part combinations/ arrangements etc

    PART SELECTOR
It would be good if you could swap a part "in-place" eg with +/- buttons to change it from part 1 to part 2 etc.

Looking forward to using this app more and getting some of my own samples in. Sounds great so far.

    Regards
    J

Save file and samples to Dropbox (perhaps iCloud). For collaboration and easy transfer between devices.

Hi. I've got another request... I would love to see an option in the sampler that allows us to set cross fade loop without having to destructively edit the sample we are using... at times, even when I have destructively edited (cross faded) the sample, some clicks continue to appear... I really think this is by far the best way to handle it... I think it's a very big deal getting in the way of the sampler functioning correctly and hope you guys can add it the way I'm proposing.

    Cheers.

darkstar's request would be really helpful with utilizing beatmaker in a live setup. I'm a little confused with the response below. When I make new tracks with duplicate instruments, they show up as separate items in the mixer, and the mixer controls the tracks. I would like to request that the track titles (not instrument names) be displayed in the mixer please. Great product and keep up the awesome work...

@DarkStar: the mixer controls the volume of each individual instruments, not individual tracks in the sequencer (as you can have multiple sequencer tracks connected to the same instrument). This is why the mixer tracks match the names of the instruments, not sequencer tracks.

    Cheers,
    Colin

I will tell you now what is needed...

A decent signal to noise ratio...i know its doable, because other pro music apps are doing it already... If my market was coffee, wouldnt the quality of the coffee be more important than say the look of the coffepot? Not in app land it isnt.
  • edited 7:59AM
I second the being able to drag sequencer chunks around...maybe a place you put you finger that allows you to drag chunks? When finger is removed you can scroll the whole arrangement?

The little left, right and seperate up down arrow things are piddly.

Please give us the ability to upgrade to way better effects?

Your overdrive needs to model ...tube, Solid state, and digital models
And should have different distort,od models such as warp etc.

Take that reverb and pitch it...its no good period, it is completely subtle until the last centimeter and then it just jumps into oblivion...it hardly sounds good at all. The move today is conv. Reverbs... I know they eat cpu, but maybe have one offline in the editor for sound design and only run a live one on a master bus?

    The digital delay...its okay...
It should be switchable ms/bpm sync with more note variations
We should be able to lp/bp/hp whats echoed
It should have more control such a jitter and flutter
Echoplex is the main idea here...
I would pay 3.99 for a good multitap space echo

The eq with sliders is so not TOUCH SCREEN...make an eq that has lp24/48, shelf, 6 bands,hi shelf, and hp24,48 with a graphic fft...this is the ultimate sound design tool...i use the eq and the compressor and circuit saturation more than anything else.

Compressor...no knee control, no limiter, multiband is welcome here... I just think the compressor would not be my pick versus anything else i own...even roland groove toys are much better.

    Phaser?
    Ringmod?
    Distortion?
    Circuit/amp?
Models of circuit like mpc60 or sp1200 for instance?

The achilles heal of beatmaker2 is no resample button for quick design!
The effects just arent anywhere near where they should be...like the autopan...wtf?
Also our overall gain and signal to noise ratio is not competing with apps like animoog, somebody needs to call moog and see how they are coding i/o s/n
  • edited 7:59AM
Also adding velocity via sensor like gb, or i really dig the ability to slide up on keys to modulate things like volume etc...

Scales? Key selection like animoog...hey its virtual...and that is awesome when it comes to transforming keyboards...i love that!

Who says every damn app has to have a keyboard that is so piano? Animoog has really took controller performance way ahead here....

There are so many small things that can be improved that will make the big difference.

I enjoy using beatmaker2 tons, i have several producers that i am friends with who all feel the same, your software is daily discussion...its exciting to be able to do the things we do with it so portably, so cheap, we love you....

Give me better effects and let me pay you! Why not? You get $$$, your software gets godzilla, and i get the honor of erasing almost everything off my ipad except a few synths a daw or two and your app! Win...win

Automate the parameter Fine Tune in Drum Machine. Sometimes just semitones is too heavy handed if you're going for just slight variations to keep repetitive samples interesting.

    gui:
    The ability to change skins

    File:
The (x) to remove whats in text box so we dont have to backspace thru it
The ability to name and save effects patches for quicker recall
The ability to put folders in folders etc

    Sampler:
Resample main outs, put back on pad or key!!!
    Formant/time/pitch
    Granular
Exs 24mkii sample compatibility (minus layers)
    Add layers?
Maybe work with the folks behind redmatica and pull out an editor?

    Internal store:
    Purchase soundpacks

    Effects:
Redo this completelly...this is NOT competitive at all sorry
Reverb, phaser, filter, granulizer, cabsim, circuit sim(mpc60, eps, sp1200, etc), flanger, chorus, digital delay, tap tape delay, comp, limiter, slicer effect...
Idea focus----look at izotope trash, ozone, and look at camel audio camelspace, and camelphat. Now you are talking!!

    Edit screen:
Fft display with cut copy paste pen tools similar to rx by izotope

    Main out effects:
    A convolution reverb that can accept any wavefile <!-- s;) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;) -->
An eq similar to the one in logic
    A multiband compressor
    Limiter

    Keyboard sampler:
    Mono,poly, legato
    Scales!!! Selectable keys to play...
Vibrato from side to side movement
Dynamic sliding up and down on keys (samplewiz and animoog)

    Sequencer:
A virtual button to place a finger on that lets you slide the blocks around
The ability to use chopshop slices to define user groove swings
Audio tracks...at least 4 with freeze and bounce and input compressor

Yall need to add two more instruments
Something that Simulates turntable scratching and can place it in the track...ie wavetraveller on fruity etc?

A synthesizer that does 4osc...subtractive,fm,granular,an xy between 4 oscs is wave, mad modulation

The ability to see on the file when it was made...to help me find stuff better, sometimes it takes me a while to remember what i named something but if i know i made it last week that narrows it down alot <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->
    **************************!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Somebody needs to go through all of this data and compile it into one big checklist and then it needs locked...intua could then remove things from the list with updates and we can then see how close we are to global beat machine domination lol <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) --> things coul also be added by admin from the suggestions that people post that could be possible updates!

There could be a WISHLIST section....with the list, as a progress bar....not saying that all things will make it, but saying its one spot where we can see what users need and want as opposed to what is being provided. Jus an idea.
  • edited 7:59AM
The reason behind the above post is my feeling toward beatmaker when moving back to it from other apps....

Its a workable thing to jump from app to app...but its a vibe killer...getting beatmaker 2 up to snuff would minimize the amount of jumping i have to do...

I dont want to have to go to my studio everytime i want to move a drum i designed in say korg ims20 to beatmaker2 this stinks period.

Its 2012 now...virtual keyboards by no means should be stuck in "piano" mode...thats just crippling...when i move from samplewiz or animoog to beatmaker 2 it sucks...i lose all sound performance instantly...scales, and keychoosing, vibrato, and volume....can and should be added...it will add so much more performance value to your app, which right now stinks in comparison to at least 5-6 other apps that you guys should be beating easily!

The ease of use is what draws people
The gui is like the blue light that zaps bugs (hot chics draw men right?)
    Reliability keeps folks
Power is what makes people talk to their people about you
Your price is cheap so your getting a wider audience from this
Great innovative features is what insures you survive!

The less i have to jump between apps the more synergistic workflow i have...i can then erase all apps except a few...sampletank would instantly be made worthless against you by adding exs support, and scaleable keyoard, and better effects...i would then not have to buy a virtual rompler.
Its like devs do not experience other apps and say...wow, i could add a similar tech to my product and it would make such a huge difference....once again do you folks at intua actually use the ipad2 to create music at all? Have you not played with animoog or for that matter anything else? Have you not heard korgs soundengine as compared to yours? There is a difference. I bet you if you added exs support alone and charged 5 bucks for it...you will get my money...cuz you would have just made a miracle for me. I could then see the beatmaker platform as a more solid music making platform. Intua has the best workstation app on the market in the itunes store...why not just have the best workstation period...? Jus sayin.
  • edited 7:59AM
    Yes, best workstation period! You are that close <!-- s;) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;) -->

    My list:

    1) Arpeggio on instrument tracks!
    2) Automate the parameter Fine Tune in Drum Machine, or allow LFOs for samples in Drum Machine. This is mostly just for hihats...
    3) "Simult" groups in Drum Machine. Like choke groups but ability to trigger multiple samples at the same time.
  • edited 7:59AM
"loop" on trigger modes of pads. what i'm talking about is a loop trigger function found in ableton live. for example, you trig the loop just before the next bar, and the loop you trigged plays immediately when the next bar starts. maybe there's someone who can describe it better but, it will overcome slight lags when trigging multiple loops (like a bd+sr and a hh loop at once) while also playing some samples over other pads. trigging the sample pad again would stop playing that loop AFTER the bar ends. so we may have something that is both a sampler and a looper in a 4x4 drumpad grid.

so let's say, you may have 4 different drumloops on the top 4 pads. 4 bass loops on the second line of 4 pads, if there's a loop mode, you can, say, trig drumloop 1 and bassloop 2 at the same time, and the next 4 bars goes like drumoop 3 and bassloop 4 etc. and maybe the rest of the pads are one shot leads, stabs, chords, vox, fx, extra bass and snare samples, etc. and you can play them freely, while the loops on the top 8 pads are still playing. and since you have at least a total of 8 banks to load up on a single drum module, you can easily perform a whole song on bm2, just like a mpc!

even the "lsdj" software on a gameboy can have a feature like this, so it would not be hard to implement into beatmaker. sequencer playing or not, it may be based on the project master tempo.

this would greatly expand the live playability of beatmaker and make our ipads better than a mpc <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

    think of it!
  • edited 7:59AM
My biggest pet peeve is not being able to hit record in the sequence window! I record a lot through other apps (soundprism) and external controllers it's backwards that you have to launch a instrument/drum machine before you can record on any track. I mean right now you can record from multiple midi channels to separate tracks even in the mixer window.

Implement record for the sequencer window!
  • edited 7:59AM
In 2.2 studio view is annoyingly positioned and configured in association with the sequencer window. When you pull up studio view it blocks the track names and left side track bar in the sequencer. Push studio view a little to the right!

I'm recording a lot from soundprism or midi controllers and sequencing midi that is sent outside BM2. Unfortunately this doesn't play well with naming tracks in studio view. In studio view you can only see a name if that instrument is a BM2 native drum machine or sampler. If a track is configured/used just for midi in/out the name is left ''empty'. Hard to know which track is doing what, especially when studio view blocks the sequencer's track names (which you can edit)!

    So, for 2.3, UI improvements:

1). Move studio view to the right or-
2). Allow studio view popup to be movable
    3) Implement new track naming system for midi tracks in studio view
    4) Allow recording from the sequencer!

    * fix the filter envelope
    * load samples etc directly from Dropbox (rather than having to copy over separately first)
    * send levels for pads/instruments
    * grid editor: hold and drag to move note (in draw mode)
    * grid editor: audition note by clicking sample name on left of grid

to expand on the dropbox comment. I think it would be good if the files could be loaded from dropbox directly and referenced in the bank file as eg
    &#91;dropbox&#58;//&#93;/audio/library/drums/909&#46;wav

then if the user loaded the bank it would prompt for a dropbox login if not already logged in.
the user would also have the option to store the samples locally with the project or even in the app sample repository for the app. obviously this is quite an involved bit of work. the "simpler" solution would be to be able to load from dropbox directly into the sampler, but only save back to the project as normal.

this would mean at least that we could maintain a large sample source repository that could be accessed via multiple audio applications, rather than having to duplicate the whole repository for each app

    Thanks!
    J

Good ideas. Hope it sees light!

We need to actually list all suggestion and make a locked topic for them and intua can check them off
  • edited 7:59AM
My only wish for better synth options, better quality sounds, and the ability to combine them like in propellerhead reason. Nanostudio's stock sound library kills bm2, this will need to be fixed to kill the competition.

Dont really see the effects in bm2 as a big issue, they use up to much CPU, just mix on your DAW where you can get more detailed with the final product.

Almost forgot!! You guys should release a paid samplepack, kind of like a refill for reason, or a vst sample pack for a DAW. People with mobile work stations would pay $$ for that.

Thanks for a great program keep up the good work Intua!!

Ability to change bank midi note values per pad!

So per preset you don't have the pads assigned chromatically starting at bank A. I want to save and arrange midi note assignments for pads in my banks. To trigger my external drums I currently have to go to bank C to be able to play them. I also can't play closed hihats very fast when it's only assigned one pad! I want to arrange two pads with the same midi note value for my hihats. I also don't want to have to switch to bank C every time I want to bang on my external drum module. "C1" and up don't appear until bank C but bank A is loaded by default!

Implement MIDI OMNI mode setting to default OFF in BM2's settings. You can do this already with MIDI out/thru/clock. Every time I boot up BM2 I have to disable OMNI or bad things happen!
