iPod Touch + Beatmaker + mic?

edited October 2009 in General
Hello all, I'm planning on hooking myself up with a 32 or 64 GB iPod Touch (one of the new ones with the 3.1 software) and will be primarily buying it as a mobile music production tool. Having looked around I've settled on beatmaker as the main app which I would be using, mainly for it's sample playback and editing properties. Having had a look around the forum here and the rest of the net I'm finding it hard to get any information on recording into the Touch using a mic, either straight in to beatmaker or into another app and then using the recorded audio as a sample.

So my main question is this...are any of you guys using a set up like this and if so what kind of gear would you recommend? I'd like to avoid using an iPhone style combined earbud / mic set up if at all possible but am open to any and all suggestions.

Thanks in advance

    It is on this forum.

You can use a mic adapter approved by Apple . With which you could plug in a mic.

I suggest if all possible you record on your computer ,then transfer the file to BeatMaker it is better that way.

I currently do all of my recording on my DAW or with hardware, but wanted something to replace the device which I use for making field recordings...and if that could also double as a sampler / sequencer for editing on the fly and whilst away from my gear then all the better, which was why I was looking at the touch / mic / beatmaker combo...rather than something like the Zoom H2 or Edirol R-09HR.

Cheers for the advice though...I had no idea that there was a mic adaptor out there so I'll have to have a wee look into that.

Think I've found what I'm looking for > http://tinyurl.com/yzcxw5k < Alesis ProTrack Handheld Stereo Recorder for iPod and iPhone. More pricy than I would like but ticks all the boxes...record audio in using the proprietary app and then edit in beatmaker...nice...

"Adaptor" was the key word missing from my previous google searchs...so thanks again

Nobody has confirmed this Mic will work. There are posts about it, but nobody has dropped the cash to find out. I also remember reading some posts about the "Blue Mic" not working with beatmaker. As of right now I'm uncertain which Mics are compatible and Intua is keeping quiet about it (as usual). I too would love to get the Protrack to work with beatmaker. It seems like a great interface/mic.

Back to my first response, Record in your computer then transfer the files after editing.

In an ideal world that would indeed be the case and maybe I'm expecting a bit much but what I really want is to free myself of as much gear as possible from time to time.

In my head the way that I see my ideal set up working is that I would have my iPod Touch and a mic in my bag and constructing a new composition would simply be a matter of whipping them out, grabing some field recordings, using those as samples, knocking up something which I liked the sound of and finding the nearest Starbucks to have a coffee and upload my new soundscape to the internet.

Realistically I'm not sure if that's possible, but I'm certainly gonna give it a whirl and hopefully have some fun finding out if I can pull it off.
