ambitious but deeply flawed

edited March 2011 in Support
This app is ambitious but deeply flawed. Having read many of the praises and complaints, I echo many of those sentiments. But in a practical sense from an end user perspective, ultimately Beatmaker 2 is discouraging to use and try to implement many of its features. It crashes with astonishing regularity running on iPhone 4 iOS 4.2. I cannot rely on it with any certainty and have lost multiple hours of editing due to crashing. Beatmaker 1 did not crash at all. Nanostudio is rock solid. Many of the problems occur when using the chop shop, sample studio and effects bay editing - all new features in what really is an entirely new app; not just an update of BM1. My message is until an update is released that addresses these issues I can't recommend that one spend $20 on an app, however great in theory, which fails to execute its ultimate purpose.

  • Why is it that I see all these talks of crashing and mine has only crashed 1 time.
What I think you guys need is an app called free memory , I believe that has helped me not crash as any times as I read about on here.
I have an iPod gen 4 running 4.2.1 and I use an iPad 32 gb and I haven't had even half the crashes I read on here leading me to believe that your ram memories are too full and you need to reboot your device or get Free Memory for iPhone and iPod touch!!!

+1 for "free memory". I run it on my iPad before I use any really heavy app/game and have zero issues. If you don't want to spent a buck or two, just do a quick reboot before you run Beatmaker 2.

BM2 is a complex and memory intensive app, but the power comes with a cost. You have to take a moment to clean up (if you have multitasking be sure to close everything) and clear as much ram as possible. To me it is well worth it, as BM2 is the first "real" and "serious" music making app on iOS, IMHO.
  • Just confirming before I buy it that Free Memory works on the iPad as well.... yah?

What is escaping me...is why are all of these people thinking $20 bucks is a large sum of money?
A decent meal combo at your favorite spot is going to be half of that with ease...
The $$$ system of today has made $1.00 about as valuable as a quarter in 1980 lol
And all these people are running around forums acting like a twenty is $199.99. Hahaha, i want to see these people buy hardware...mpc 4000 2 grand joe! Vsynth xt 2300.00 my dewds...yall have no ideal what so ever when it comes to the cost of owning or operating a real studio...

I would have jumped at 20 bucks for beatmaker 2 10 years ago...like a mad dog at a rack o ribs!
I think intua should ask more, so that more development can happen for this app!
I recommend adding effects as in app purchases, but add great effects!
I recommend adding a few audio tracks as an in app purchase!

Make these cheapskates pay, the old addage is...you will respect it more if you have to earn it!
I will pay for these updates, no problem! I would
also recommend adding a tipcup to your webpage so that folks can just drop you a buck or two here and there.
I bet you if reason comes out mobile it will hit for 100 bucks!
    And they will get it.
    Especially if it samples!
By paying a higher premium intua can add resources such as more devs etc. Its not very realistic to expect these folks to starve to death or work incredibly hard on something while you whine and cry. Whinng and crying doesnt pay the bills, for you or for intua.

Ps. I have no affiliation with intua what so ever...
This forum has too little interaction and teamwork, but an over abundance of venting about a flippin twenty.

I agree with in app purchases such as FX's like MicGee$ suggests, also some keyboard samlpe packs to purchase would be nice. I am more than willing to buy "in app" to keep development flowing.

BM2 crashes every time I try to jump to the X/Y parameter pad for the Filter effect. Every time. That's not memory... that's a bug. iPad Wifi/3G - 64gb.

The crazy thing is that this $20 app on a cell phone does more than the $2,000 MPC!! BM2 Has never crashed on my 3GS or iPad.

@mrcrazyfingers: that is insane and amazing. It definitely blows away the portable MPC 500 that I paid over $500 for a few years ago:)

I agree with everything you said. More over the higher premium for more Dev, add ons etc... the only thing i don't think Intua would make that move, bet theres more profit in the lower price point....i pay over $20 every time i hit the petro station
