Woes wont go away - do I go back to Cubase?

edited September 2012 in Support
Im trying to expand my sound library on BM2 by using an external sampler with Kontakt5 as I've used up BM's repertoire of sounds and need more. I'm connecting BM2 to the laptop with an Alesis IO Dock. Does anyone successfully got the IO Dock to work with BM2?

I have the midi out channels working fine connecting to Kontakt5 on a laptop. The issue i have is that the audio for the BM2 sounds comes out on the IO Dock whilst the audio for Kontakt samples comes out on the laptop. Even if i route the audio from the laptop back into the IO Dock inputs the sound will come out through the headphones but the audio doesnt show up in the BM2 Mixer. Without this there's no way to export a WAV file with ant of the Kontakt tracks (they're all silent in BM2).

Anyone know a way of getting audio from a laptop coming out through the BM2 mixer?

Is this an audio or a midi problem (other than just user malfunction)? Im close to pulling my hair out and ditching BM2 to go with Cubase unless someone's got any ideas...

Im close to

  • You can monitor the inputs of your device if simply make an audio track and enable monitoring....

    Hey Rusty
Don't ditch BM2 just yet...coming soon...Audiobus..Now it may, at the moment, be IOS App to App, but you never know.

  • Currently Bluetooth is far too slow for reliable uncompressed audio- what else would audiobus offer beside app to app real time audio sharing?

    Rusty,

I have the IO Dock and I love it. Are you still having issues with importing the sounds from Kontakt? I actually do this with Nexus. I hook my midi keyboard to my pc running fl studio with Nexus then I send the audio to the dock stereo inputs. You could also hook the keyboard to the dock through 5 pin and send midi through the USB so you can edit the notes. Then I either make a sample to use from the sounds, play live with BM2 playing drums, create a preset from importing 3 notes of an octave, or make an entire BM2 preset from any sound or sounds I want.

Google beatmaker2 instrument maker and you should see the site at the top of the list. The site gives you details on how to convert a vsti to a BM2 preset or a Thumbjam preset.

I also use this same method for YouTube videos and other samples on my pc that I can't import into BM2 the traditional way.

The IO Dock will also allow you to resample the iPad. You can sample a YouTube video while BM2 is in the background or maybe some sounds from a different app. Once audiobus is released there probably won't be much use for this but I'm sure this technique can still be of some use.

I wonder since YouTube is now an app store app, I'm wondering if audiobus can support that. I know the developer would have to support is but probably just wishful thinking. That would be just too easy though.

I have had terrible luck with the alesis io dock and beatmaker2, not however with auria...so it is a beatmaker2 issue!

There is some goofy stuff going on when trying to record audio to an audio track in beatmaker2 from the mic input with phantom power and a lg cond mic. For one input 1 & 2 are corssed up...if the mic is plugged into input two you will need to select input 1, wtf, and then get ready...there will be noise...a high buzzing...

Beatmaker2 needs to stay focussed on being a sampling workstation, because as an audio recorder it is AWEFUL...on the hardware side it is wrong and there is noise, on the usefulness side its bad...you have to keep selecting and programming audio track units...no save? Why not just define and input and route it like the rest of the world? There is no compressor on input, but there is a noise gate... Not that the compressor on bm2 is good anyways... Why intua chose this direction for bm2 is to appease cheapskate producers who wanted to drop vocals and couldnt do so from the pads...which is easier than the audio track BTW...lol

intua updates about one time per six months...so 5 more months of this and maybe we will get sampling workstation features instead of a horrid virtual studio...that still has workflow, file, and crash issues in what was original implemented features.

THERE ARE NO SOUNDLIBRARIES FOR BEATMAKER2 BECAUSE IT IS EFFING HORRIBLE TO CREATE THEM, no crossfade tools, the eq blows, the filter is thin, the keymapping is not intuitive, there is no helpful computer counterpart, there is no file compatibility with anything except aiff...wav has to be converted if you wanna do anything to it, my nanopad2 transmits velocity to everything except beatmaker2? Hahaha come on... There is simply nothing going on with the original intent of this device...

Lets talk about the sequencer...it was copied directly from nanostudio...BUT, lets keep it real...you left out the good shit when you copied it...lmao smh.

I know i know...its 20 bucks...well auria is 50 and a million times better as a recorder. You guys have no sense of reality in here... I hope intua scraps beatmaker2 and builds a real sampling workstation and charges 100 bucks for it! I'll buy it

I suppose i will be specific on the aweful things in using bm2 as a recorder.

    1. It doesnt work with the io dock properly.
    2. There must be an instrument made for each audio track.
    3. Said instrument must be reproposed everytime.
    4. Moving of chunks of audio to other audio tracks is not allowed.
    5. There is no real ounce feature.
    6. No input effects besides noise supression.
    7. No fade tools of any kind.
    8. No recording of internal outputs (resampling) so as to print keys or pads to tape...so to say
    9. Tools for audio edits are infidel...period.
    10. The effects section is not suitable for any important or professional recording of any kind in my honest opinion, and if ya want i'll get even more folks to cosign this. I got 7 right now.

Who is flying this vessel? Can I talk to you? You are gonna crash if you keep flying this low.

Thanks for the great responses on this. Its good to know others have experienced similar woes and that theres some great experimentation going on in this forum.

I like BM2 a lot - it has a lot of the basics you need without all the stuff you dont (until you need it of course). The sample library is the key issue in my book as you eventually will need to plug into other devices to expand your sound bank. The sequencer i love. Provided we can expand to further hi fidelity sounds then this can become a serious composition tool.

    As for the IO Dock...

The Alesis went back to the shop permanently on Sunday. The level of quality of the audio inputs were just not going to cut it. Lots of wires i can handle. Not the lo-fi though. The whole concept of having to set up audio ins and recording tracks i was exporting was just getting way too much.

But i did find a temporary solution to the problem of expanding your BM sound library for those interested - http://www.bluezone-corporation.com provide some high quality sample libraries as wav files in different genres at fairly reasonable prices. Ive downloaded a few and have now expanded my BM2 sound library by about 400%. There's some good stuff there to keep me busy for a long time...
