Beatmaker 2 Midi In Problem

Hello,

I run Beatmaker 2 on an iPad 2 connected to an Alesis iO Dock.

I have an external Akai MPD26 and I would like it to trigger live the drum pads in Beatmaker 2.

Midi data seems to be getting into Beatmaker since Akai can control the Beatmaker Keyboard Sampler (Akai sends data on Midi Channel 1).

But the problem is that when I load Beatmaker's drum machine (and select Midi input channel 1), I cannot get the Akai to control it. There seems to be no midi data coming in (The AKAI is still sending on Midi Channel 1).

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance!

The reason why the pads are not working is because your mpd is sending midi data to pads that have no samples assigned to them.

The pads start at midi note 0 which in BM2 is c-2 so you have to set your mpd to send midi notes 0-15 to the drum pads. Midi note 0 is the first pad and midi note 15 is the 16th pad in pad bank A. If you want your mpd to send midi notes to the bank B of pads then your mpd has to send notes 16-31.

Just create a preset on your MPD for BM2 that has the pads assigned to the right midi notes and you should be fine.

Let me know if this works for you.

Interesting, someone fighting with a similar problem on the same day. However, I'm using a keyboard.

I have an iodock connected to a Nord Stage. Like vas, it works fine for the keyboard. I can map samples to the keyboard, set keyboard instrument to MIDI channel 1, set Nord to MIDI channel 1, and it plays the samples.

On the drum machine side, I assign samples to bank A or B. I can play the samples in BM2 with no problem by hitting the pads. But, I play every note on the Nord and nothing plays. MIDI channel for drum machine set to 1 (and keyboard instrument turned off).

Is it possible to play drum machine pads with an external keyboard?

    Thanks.

You should be able to. You might have to lower the octaves depending on how many keys you have.

Same concept though, the first pad is 0 which is also the same as c-2. Just keep lowering the octaves until you hear something.

No good. Tried entire range of 88 keys with no luck.

As I think about it, probably not a big deal for what I'm doing. I want to trigger the sounds either from the Nord or the BM2 pads. To do that, I simply create two instruments with the same samples. Keyboard for use with the external keyboard, drum machine for pads.

    Thanks for the quick suggestions.

Make sure the midi-in is turned on for the device in BM2. Bring up the instrument to the foreground and tap on the midi icon. Midi-in is turned off by default for each instrument in BM.

    Hi,

I have the same problem : korg keyboard (sv1) connected to BM2 through io dock ; everything is ok with the keyboard sounds/sampler in BM, but nothing comes out with the drum pads, even on the C2 octave ... Any idea please ?

BM2 is C-2. You have another 4 octaves to go down.

Intua, hows about a GM compatible drumpad note mapping option? This keeps coming up.

+1 for a midi mapping / midi learn option !

Probably not. Which leaves you pretty much only MidiBridge.

I'm guessing Jack (free) will get there sometime but is currently a bit unstable.
