External Midi sequencer- Is it possible to trigger more than 16 pads

So I'm trying to control Beatmaker 3 from an external sequencer but I can only control a maximum of 16 pads. And midi notes after the first 16 (from C3) just play the first pad at increasing pitches.
The manual is no help, I have tried all of the suggested instructions but I'm still stuck on 16 pads only!
I have setup all of the 64 pads (as a 64 pads device) with their own midi note (starting from C3 for Pad 1 up to D#8 for Pad 64) in the Focus actions editor but still only the first 16 pads will play!
