Yo guys. Here's a quick uk garage demo I've done with my sister aka Zozu on vocals. Very early stages. Let me know what you think. Hope you enjoy!!

    Agree with @5pinlink re: genre

This sounds a lot more like the 4/4 US garage style started by labels like Strictly Rhythm in the early-to-mid 1990s. UK garage (which didn't properly start until late 1996/7) was always more of a 2-step rhythm, except for the (mostly-awful) 'speed garage' era from 1997-1999.
Todd Edwards (US producer) is a good example of the 4/4 gospel-influenced bouncy garage that helped kick-start the UK scene. And that earworm of a track by Tina Moore (Never Gonna Let You Go) in the late 90s is probably where the 2-step trend started in the UK.

There's a brilliant site all about the history of US/UK garage here:
    http://www.musicismysanctuary.com/the-history-of-the-uk-garage-family-tree and also http://www.musicismysanctuary.com/90s-garage-us-uk-connection

All of this is a long-winded way of saying that your track (as nice as it is coming along) is not really UK garage. I also agree that the vocals are too recessed.

  • Aaaah Todd (the god) edwards, I hate all of these genres to be honest, but the pitching and triggering he did on vocals was off the f******g chain !!

  • Re: your production skills - Nice one!

imho, the bassline could come down 1 db (and/or get side-chained to the kick maybe?) and the vocals could come up 1 db

    :)

  • Thanks for the feedback guys. Nice one as always!!
  • Here's the 2nd demo guys. Let me know what you think!!!

  • Anyone feeling it?

  • It sounds high quality to me, I can’t comment on the song itself, I don’t like UK garage sorry.

  • No worries. Anyone else?

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • No worries thanks for taking the time to listen to it. Anyone else feeling this or not lol?

  • @The_Bro
It's catchy, but could be considered a little repetitive for modern tastes - however it does nail that 90s Strictly Underground early house sound (whether intentional or not)

If you're keen to get more genre-specific feedback, it might be worth posting this in House & Garage web communities, or submitting it to SoundCloud groups of a similar nature.

The people who post here on Intua represent many different styles of music, and whilst we're all happy to comment on the technical side, it can be a bit harder for us to judge if it's a good track.

  • I'd give the vocals some further processing love, they sound recorded in the closet. On desktop I'd recommend http://www.voxengo.com/product/voxformer/ for iOS I'd look at https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/voice-rack-fx-vocal-effects-processor/id950058913?mt=8

  • They were recorded in the side room not quite the closet but close enough lol!!

  • Try the bathroom, you get a free reverb :)
