1st post, 1st track

Dear all,

I've had Beatmaker 3 since January.
I've been getting to know it in my spare time.

It's now loaded with almost all of the sounds that I like to use plus a few more.
It's constantly growing.

Here's a recent track I put together based upon a character from a graphic novel.

The track is called ,'Sing a long'.

It was composed entirely within Beatmaker 3 without
a keyboard then Mastered using Audio Master

I'm going to be using the pattern section of Beatmaker 3
alongside my jazz quartet over the next few months.
I shall be posting up sounds both here and via FB.

Have a listen.

Enjoy

  • I really like this, has a nice Lalo Schifrin vibe to it, but it feels like two seperate tracks to me.

Not surprising that it feels like two separate tracks.
The character it's based upon has an alter ego
so in many respects it represents that duality.

Thank you for the Lao Schifrin compliment.

    Glad you like it.

  • It’s very very good. I particularly like the second half when the live drumming comes in. Are the second half jazz drums taken from sample loops or programmed midi parts or a drum sampler synth ?

  • This is wicked. Nice sound and production. Did you ever hear Raw Deal who were on Talkin Loud back in the late 90s? Reminded me of him just a smidge. Nice work.

  • Thank you.
    Good question.

They are live drum loops set to mute
each other so that I can play them in.
Some I liked the front end or the tail end and used
the grid snap to select which part of the phrases I liked.

They are also set to time stretch so
that I can change the tempo on the fly.

  • This is fantastic! Grooves hard and stays interesting.

I don't know Raw Deal yet.
    I'll check them out.
Thank you for the compliment especially for the sound and the production.

  • Listening to some tracks by Raw Deal right now.
Yep, I can hear why my track reminded you of him.
    Very cool.

  • Very cool! I really like how it builds. Nice cinematic atmosphere that gives me an Amon Tobin vibe.

    Thank you.

I've been returning back to my composition roots in recent years
and with my newly formed jazz band starting to take shape
my sound is starting to reflect that.

I love grooves and beats but after awhile they taste like popcorn.
    Easy come easy go.

When a track is crafted then I feel I can listen to it over and over again.

I have been writing lots of stuff using Beatmaker getting used to it's flow.
Mainly House, Hip-hop, Broken beat and a little drum n bass

Now though the tracks are starting to sound the way I like them to sound.

    Glad you like it.

  • Very cool seeing people grow - though I have to say I do love salted caramel popcorn - that's never easy come easy go in my books - even though my cholesterol may argue differently

  • I like popcorn as well, otherwise I wouldn't write them.

I write popcorn almost all the time to keep my skill level
on point much like practicing a guitar or bass.

Writing material like this though pushes my abilities far more.

  • I absolutely love this @Gravitas! That groove is infectious. The sound choices are stellar. The drums remind me a lot of Darren King of Mute Math as do the sounds. I’ve listened to it like 10 times in a row, haha!

So are these drums you playing the pads on the iPad live or are you sequencing them? Or both? I’ve been practicing my finger drumming and have been practicing a new technique on the iPad where I hit a snare pad, for example, and quickly tap the “trigger” strip to play a ghost note at a lower volume. It’s taken me awhile but getting better at it.

  • Thanks dude.

10 times in a row? very cool.

They are a mixture of drum loops
that are triggered live and sequenced.

When I sequence drums I play in the main accents and
then I write in the ghost notes where they are supposed to be.

My first instrument is drums which is a great advantage
when it comes to using loops or sequencing drums.
