How to automate the modulation amount?

I have a sample loaded and want to modulate a modulator, so to speak. But when I activate „Recording automations“ and fiddle around with the slider, nothing gets recorded. Apart from that I’d love to use LFOs or an envelope to control the modulation amount, but I haven’t found a way to do so. Is this even possible and if yes, how do I set it up? Thanks.

You can either map the modulation ratio control to a macro, and then you can record automation of the macro, or you can modulate the lfo amount within the lfo controls with another lfo or macro or whatever. You double tap on the controls to get the extended options pop up. This can be anywhere on the ratio slider bar, not just the handle.
